I just got an "old" LWFF, (the new one was pictured in the catalogue when I
brought mine) and one of the paddles is a bit iffie, should I get it fixed
now, or should I wait a little and see if they'll replace it with a new one?
Im not used to it yet, but its great fun :)

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new LWFF to replace the trusty
but completely knackered T2.
The Logitech site has updated their info and pics and the LWFF looks a
little different now.
Can anyone tell me:
1. What differences, if any, between the 'old' and 'new'.
2. Are the pedals different in the new model?
Pics of the pedals would be very helpful.
Cheers
-Nick
Sorry, no pics here. However, the picture on the profiler SW is accurate.
The following is not for comparison purposes, as this is the first wheel I
have owned.
1. The base is smaller. The clamping system requires little room under the
desk and is easy to use. Adapters are provided to fit different thicknesses
of desks. I'm not impressed with the clamps, though. They allow the base
to rock downward. If the desk has a very narrow lip underneath, the clamp
probably wouldn't hold the base in place.
I believe the wiring harness has changed. The wheel base has 3 wires: USB,
power, and pedals. The power brick is 3-4" long, so must be placed in an
end socket on a power strip.
2. The pedals are different. The base seems way too small. No dead pedal
or room to rest left foot. Therefore, the base moves significantly on
carpet.
The pedal angle is rather uncomfortable, but feel is quite good. If I
adjust
the chair height to provide a comfortable grip on the wheel (on standard
31" desk), the pedals must be placed nearly directly below. However, the
pedal angle makes them impossible to use when directly below the chair.
If the wheel angle were not so upright, this would not be a problem. Poor
ergonomic design given that desk height is fairly standard.
Another way of expressing the pedal angle - they are quite comfortable if
your legs are stretched out and knees are unbent. With my office chair set
to a height that lets me stretch my legs, the wheel angle is too
horizontal.
By either lowering the wheel mount height or raising the pedal base, I
think
a very comfortable setup could be achieved.
I wish I could comment on the FF, but have nothing to base it on. Overall,
the wheel does have a Toys-R-Us feel to it. It seems cheap and breakable.
I'll undoubtedly return it- have 14 days return period. I am having a ball
with
it in the meantime, though : )

The FF is excellent and I love the pedals.

All the 'research' I've done suggests that
conventional wisdom says that LWFF pedals are crap. Yours is the first
opinion I've read that says otherwise.
I guess crapness is in the eye of the beholder eh ?
I suppose all my questions will be answered when the LWFF arrives at my
door.

Actually the old pedals can be greatly and cheaply improved through a visit
to your local hardware store. I stuck a couple of those self adhesive teflon
furniture glides on the pedal surfaces. That allows the sole of my foot to
slid slightly across the surface of the pedals and eliminates the binding
caused by the fact that the pedal to pivot distance is different from my
heel to sole/pedal contact point. At the same hardware store I bought a
stronger spring to go under the brake pedal. These 2 changes took the pedals
from the "sucks" catagory to the "acceptable" for less than 10 dollars.
Also, as a personal preference, with the teflon pedals I can adopt a more
laid back driving position rather than the more upright position the
originals forced on me. Don't know if this has any relevance to the new
LWFF but it might help you.

Actually I race shoeless, and the new springs they put in the most recent
(old-LWFF)release are great, there's not enough travel on the brake pedal,
but I quickly got used to that. I thought I was going to have to wire my CH
pedals up, but once I got the wheel I realised I was keeping the LWFF
pedals.

This really surprises me Rik... the LWFF are ok at best, and for games
that don't require too much precise braking (RC2000 etc) they're more
than ok. But I have greatly improved in GPL since I bought the CH
pedals. I could never achieve that kind of precise control with my
LWFF pedals.

I have the old LWFF, and i love it. The pedals are just fine as long are you
use them with socks, you have more control. The new one LOOKS not as durable
and ive heard theres more plastic.

Well, I guess I should point out that I haven't done too much GPL *yet*
since I got the LWFF, I was solid into GP3 when the wheel arrived. I think
for GPL you may be correct, the CH pedals do offer more precise control- my
lap times are definitely down, I figured it was from all the GP3ing I had
been doing, you know, you miss a day of GPL and your lap times suffer, miss
a month and your doomed!! I guess my main point is that the pedals are not
as bad as they say, and after all the bad press I was pleasantly surprised
with them.
(but my CH pedals are staying right here just in case)
;)

There are few who like the pedals out of the box and a lot who got used to them.
