using my voodoo3 2000 pci with the 1.05 drivers, the graphics in GPL seem
very dark :(
don't have this problem with other sims. Someone here knows a solution to
fix this?
Datoner
You need a program called powerstrip that will make
the gamma settings work for your Voodoo3 2000 in GPL.
I can't remember where i got it but you could do a search
for it or email me and i will send it to you.

Afraid not - I had this problem and it turned out to be due to my
monitor. Other games had a gamma slider which would help but GPL seemed
to ignore it. Power strip etc gamma sliders didn't change things.

Try a bit of lateral thinking:
1. Increase the brightness of your monitor until GPL looks OK
2. Open 3dfx Color settings and reduce the gamma settings for the desktop
and D3D, both of which do work
Unfortunately I can't take credit for this idea. I read it on another forum
a while ago but it has served me very well.
Cheers

John,
I've had this problem ever since I switched to the V3 2000 a
year ago. Since my monitor at the time was a very old one whose
brightness was maxed out, GPL's darker tracks were pretty much
unplayable for me. After quite a bit of searching I was able to find
an old Banshee Glide driver that lets you use the 3dfx gamma slider
properly. All you have to do is copy it (GLIDE2X.DLL) into your GPL
directory.
If you (or anyone else with this problem) would like to have
this file, please email me and I will send it immediately.

Richard,
I have tried GPL on two different monitors (same computer) and
experienced the same inability to use the Glide gamma slider properly.
This also occurs in several other games. I was never able to pinpoint
the cause of this problem, unfortunately.

It's fine on my machine. Also a Voodoo3 2000.
I always ask the question for EA F12000... will someone turn the
lights on please?

That of course assumes that you CAN turn up your monitor enough. I can't, for
one...

Same prob here but I use the Geforce DDR, tired of adjusting the monitor all
the time and also I dont think this gives me the best results...
Powerstrip eh you say, hell I'll try anything

Martin,
Thanks for the tip and for sending me the file. I have a Voodoo3 as
well and the 3dfx gamma slider works well to adjust the desktop
settings, but does nothing noticeable for the 3dfx settings.
I copied the GLIDE2X.DLL file into my GPL directory, but then GPL
simply refuses to load. I get an illegal page fault error.
Here's a stupid question. Was that file meant to replace an
existing one in the GPL folder? I had no GLIDE2X.DLL file in there
before. If I remove the one you sent me GPL runs fine again (as
dark as ever) in 3DFX mode.
Do I need to apply some other patch first?

Ferdinand,
I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Are you running
Windows 98?
To the best of my knowledge, no other patching is required.
An original install of GPL does not include GLIDE2X. Adding the file
in your directory supercedes the default GLIDE2X (which, I believe, is
in the windows/system directory).
Again, I apologize for getting your hopes up but this fix has
worked very well for me for the last year. I have been trying every
new version of 3dfx drivers since last year yet the Glide and GL gamma
sliders still don't function properly. I would like to hope that 3dfx
fixes this in the future, but I'm not even sure if they know that such
a problem exists.
