Just had a race against the AI on Bull Run. Much to my surprise they
were very good! During practice they made quite some crashes, but
during the race (12 laps) only one AI car dropped out because of
engine troubles. The rest made the finish perfectly.
Even more so, the AI was very good on the banked sections, they even
overtook eachother on the last banking before the corner. I have to
struggle there to even keep the car on the road!
I thought the AI had troubles on the banking, the reason why no AI was
made for Noonan's oval converter, but apparently it is possible.
I'd love to race against the AI on Bristol... (or on the banked Monza
for that matter, but you allready knew that)

Fully agree with you, would also love to race against a1 on the other oval
converted tracks,i even wrote to dave asking if he planned in future to fix
the A1 in those tracks,but unfortunately,no reply

Do not expect an AI fix for the high banked ovals any time soon, I don't
remember the techie bits, but at the time David simply didn't see any
way to make them realistically, this might have changed in the past
couple of months, but I don't think so

Have you tried Bull Run Goy? The bankings are quite steep there imo,
especially that last banked corner, and the AI behaves perfect there.
Perhaps Noonan can find a solution for the oval tracks by studying the
AI file from the Bull Run track?
By the way, I'm seriously curious who converted Bull Run and who made
the AI, anybody know?

It's AI, Artificial Intelligence.

Yep, that's Noonan :)

Could be, I haven't seen it myself, not enough time these days to race
much unfortunately, but yes, the last corner at Bull Run was fairly
steeply banked, do the AI race at full speed through that corner ?

Then even overtake there, while I'm struggeling to keep the car on the

See my recent post re: Bull Run - setups/replays/times. I just won a
race there, F1 using the default setup (reduced to 4laps fuel) in
the Ferrari. The last banking is where i really make up time on them.
Certainly I am flat in 5th all the way through.
If you want replay I can post in alt.binaries.simulators.autos.

Ps. I'm not an Alien .. GPLRank +26.07

Although flat in the Ferrari, 5th is a little low, also never gets to
10k but better than staying in 4th. Carry about 150-155mph
through the last banking.
Tried the Lotus and did a 1:48.03 and an untidy 1:47.96
pretty much straight away. The 5th gear on the Lotus
is much longer but you struggle to get enough speed up
prior to the banking to need 5th, feels quicker and maybe
need a slight lift on the exit to pull the tail in. I would say it's
pulling about 158mph through the banking, I'll maybe check
later.
The Ferrari setup needs some work, the Lotus feels quite good
and not so nervous as the Ferrari.

I'll post the 1:48.03 lap in the Lotus, I did a 1:47.96 but it's a bit
untidy.
This is just using the Default Setup with the fuel reduced to 4 laps
worth (novice race length). If you wanted to tweak the setup a little
5th could do with being a little bit shorter I think as you never
really max out. The rest is more down to personal preference, I
generally either use the defaults or Alison Hines for the main
GPL tracks.

Ooops, they were the Ferraris times, read 1:47.16 and 1:46.87, I've
now posted the 1:47.16 lap, the other, although faster was a bit
untidy.

I like the feel but probably no faster although have since done
a fairly tidy 1:46.37 which I'll post to the binaries group along with
the setup

Dear GPL racers,
is the Bull Run track for GPL to be found somewhere? And as a version
that is not stolen from anyone! (I do not want any "frenchpits" kind
of stuff!)
If it is "legally" somewhere, where?
Arto
PS Great tracks we have got lately, Imola, Road Atlanta, Solitude!
