Hi
Silly question, but what does LOL stand for. I see it here and at VROC.
Dont I just know It will be blatently obvious once you enlighten me
:o)
Martin
What does LOL mean?
A newcomer asked what LOL means, drawing joke expansions before the answer. The thread became VROC banter, a challenge race between Jan Verschueren and Simon Brown, and confessions that many first thought 'PO' (pit out) meant something rude.

You're on... we'll have to arrange to meet on VROC, because I don't do much
pick-up racing nowadays. Pick a convenient timeframe and let me know.

It stands for Lots of Lotuses. Many people will only drive this car to the
exclusion of the other fine gpl cars, and this acronym is an expression of
protest against this trend.

For what it's worth, I usually drive Murasama or Brabham when I race
VROC.

Chub Pearson, there's a name from the past....is he still racing? I lost my
"online cherry" to that bloke! He had to call me long distance and we raced
modem-to-modem for hours....I shudder even now to think of the phone bills!

Actually, I took the liberty to check your times on GPLRank, and I think it
probably would be a spanking :) We've got identical times at Monaco, but
you're anywhere from a little to a lot faster everywhere else. I'm at
+52.72. Also nice to see another driver who doesn't have 10 or 11 PB's in
the Lotus :)
If you still want a race or two, anytime in the next few days should be ok.

Hehe, I guess you know by now.
I remember when first driving on VROC I saw 'PO' all the time, and
thought somebody was telling me to P*SS OFF, because I was on their
hotlap driving line or something. Then later I realized and remembered
the call for a 'Pit Out' message when somebody leaves the pits.
It's probably a mixture of both though in practice ;-)
And GLA is when there are 2 seconds left to start and you want to wish
everyone Good Luck (All). :)
The nicest acronym explanation I've heard was about the F word in 19th
century Britain, where whorehouses were condoned. The F word was an
abbreviation of 'Fornication Under Consent of the King'.

Heh.... actually, to be honest, I took the liberty of checking your times
before I issued this last challenge. <g>
As for the Lotus... well, I can drive it, but I can't really make it's
superior characteristics work for me. In fact, I feel as if I need to
graduate into driving the Lotus. Except for the 'Ring, where I find it's the
only car that can turn quick enough to really attack the course.
I could do with an on-line race to keep up my appetite between league
seasons... how about Thursday night, around 10 pm your time on #GPL? My nick
on VROC is JayVee. All lurkers invited.

I thought
maybe the eace administrator was going to accelerate time or something. I
realised it didn't mean that after I went back to the pits to wait for the
start and ended staring at a long list of PO's in the chat window for the
next 15 minutes!

Ok, sounds like fun :) How do you know when 10pm my time is btw?
Hopefully you're in europe somewhere and we can find a server with <500
pings for both of us. Do you want to stick to Cooper versus BRM or just
race in anything?
My nick is fish.
Yeah, the Lotus isn't my cup of tea either. I love the driveability of the
Cooper, but if I was going for a PB it would be the Eagle or the Brabham for
me. Driving the Lotus just costs too much in spoiled laps at the more
difficult tracks.

Your E-mail ends in .co.uk, so I'm assuming you're on British Summer Time.

Ideally we'd need <200ms pings for both of us, otherwise racing close might
be too dangerous, but a moderately good ping will do (basically your lowest
ping at a track we both have, I'm usually "ok" everywhere). As far as I'm
concerned marque is not an issue (neither is class... if you're used to
racing F2 you might stand a good chance), although depending on the track
and how fresh I feel later I might go "the idiot in the BRM"-route. <g>

Ok, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Wise decision. I haven't driven the Brabham much, but it's a good choice if
you want to drive neat lines.

Yep, British summer time is right, so 10pm my time is five hours from when
this message is posted.
I don't think i've ever seen pings below 200 on vroc, even when there's a uk
server, but there's usually three green flag races available in the 200-350
range, which is good enough for me. I'll probably be in the eagle or
brabham.
Cya there.

Gone mad there, it's Monza we've got identical times at not Monaco.
