New F12000 rain-patch, soon to be released...

EA's paid F1 Championship Season 2000 update

News that EA would sell F1 Championship Season 2000, adding rain, revised AI and a driving school to F1 2000, drew complaints about paying for what seemed a patch. Some compared it with GP3 being sold as an upgraded GP2, and others noted it shared F1 2000's engine. A free weather add-on for F1 2000 was suggested as an alternative.

Pretty cool EA's about to release a new patch to f12k, a rain-patch. Awsome that we'll get a box along with it. To bad it's not a free lunch. /Carl (the guy who said earlier this year that EA doesn't patch games, but releases new versions, wasn't to far off, was he? I didn't just believe it until now)
How about a new box? ;-) Andre Warringa <[email hidden]> skrev i en nyhedsmeddelelse:[email hidden]... > On Thu, 31 Aug 2000 00:14:06 +0200, "Carl Ribbegaardh" > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >Pretty cool EA's about to release a new patch to f12k, a rain-patch.Awsome

It's not unusual for EA to release several versions of the same game with only a few modifications. Their FIFA range usually gets released in at least two differant boxes a year. Their Cricket World Cup 1999 was rereleased as Cricket 2000 this year and they even mentioned on the box (in very small writing) that is was the same game plus a few extras. I havn't even mentioned the golf games! I have no doubt that they will release an enhanced version of F1 2000, apart from the rain I'm sure the rest we would expect to find in a patch. You mean, apart from the high resolution graphics, improved handling (especially at the limit), much improved and agressive AI, FF, virtual cockpit with visible front wheels, lit road surface (during good weather)? You forgot the next box Greg. And some pages from the manual are different compared to the GP2 manual. All the GP2 references have been changed with GP3 for example. It's not as bad as you claim it to be Greg, imho ofcourse, but after a week I didn't touch GP3 again. Andre

Yeah, they should include the real 2000 F1 tracks this time, not those fantasy tracks that came in the first box! ;^) Seriously, as no new tracks are added for this season, what new tracks should they include? -- l8er ronny Your mouse has moved. Maybe some tracks that are not in this year's season? The point I was trying to make is that they can't sell an add-on if it only is a rain-patch, nobody will buy that. Andre
>Why not? Microprose did. And that is about the only cool change to >GP2... > > C'mon, there's a lot more to GP3 than simply a GP2 upgrade. I admit the feeling's much the same, but after playing GP3 I have to say that I think the reason for that is because GP2 was so good in so many ways that there was simply no point in fixing something that wasn't broken. I don't blame Crammond et. al. for that. I enjoy GP3 a damn sight more than F12K--which, by the way, is removed from my HD. Jerry Morelock

Hey, this is starting to sound good, very good! Rain, better AI, driving school, updated liveries... Here's the bit about the AI: Top of the list for change was the opponent driver AI. Aggression and competitiveness can be adjusted, but more importantly the line they take and how they react to cars ahead or to the side of them has been improved. Essentially, we are told, the computer-controlled drivers won't stick religiously to their chosen line and speed - EA plan to make them react more realistically and more quickly to driver actions, even to the point of allowing them to change their line through a corner where necessary. Have you seen the pics Greg? I immediately assumed that it would be an updated F1 2000.. why would they develop a whole new engine when they have got the fantastic F1 2000 engine? Andre

It's the same game engine Andre, same than the one in F12k. Basically it's far from a completely new game.
