Hehe, I have been using 60/60 for a loooong time... :-)
It started when I found out that the Basic Trainers (F3) didn't work very
well with 85/30, and I started experimenting with closing the diff, 60/30 or
even 45/30. The most prominent effect from this was that it made the car
less pushy during exits, and this was something I wanted with my F3 car
because it doesn't have a lot of engine power.
The next observation was the terrible oversteer at turn-in at the really
slow turns (Monaco springs to mind). I openened up the diff on the braking
side, and ended up with 60/85, or even 85/85 at Monaco. This makes the F3
car pleasantly oversteering with throttle, and is certainly faster at
Monaco, as it creates more grip at turn-in and exit. But throttle control is
vital, of course.
85/85 is too much for F1 and F2, as the car gets too twitchy and
oversteering with the more powerful engines. But I still use 60/85 at Monaco
with my F2 Lotus.
And, the "slide" tracks like Silverstone seems to want more lock on the
power side, so I use 45/60 there.
The lack of the ABS effect of the brakes with an open diff is not a big
problem in my view. In fact, I find this effect pretty negligble anyway,
maybe because I trailbrake, and use a little "checker" throttle to make the
car brake straight anyway. I don't think the ABS effect enables you to
outbrake someone, or avoid being outbraked anyway, so.... When you brake on
the extreme limit, nobody can pass you anyway. :-)

I'm back from building and driving my new Cobra! (We won our first

I've added several news items to my GPL News page. Some of them, such
as the new tracks from Dave Noonan and the GPLEA, the GPLEA Lotus, and
3D wheels from the Tyre Barn, may be old news to you.
However, I have an exciting new development: some superb new setups from
Steve Smith. Steve has been experimenting with differential settings
other than the traditional 85/30 settings, and has come up with some
convincing new setups for the F2 cars using 60/60 or 60/45 with 1
clutch.
I spent only a few laps with Steve's Kyalami setup for the Cooper before
deciding to follow this route myself. So far, all of my new setups use
60/45/1, but I will continue to experiment and will probably publish
some new setups of my own soon, using Steve's approach.
Read Steve's article and download his setups at my site:

Alison,
I went to your site (for setups), as listed below, was able to get there,
but none of your links from the page seem to be working. Using Netscape
4.72.
