Hi drivers,
I stupendously miss the Belgium GP in the weekend, plus the overtake of the
decade (apparently). Do anybody know anywhere where I can download the
clip?
go to rec.autos.sport.f1, i saw a message there with a link to the clip.

backmarkers..

It was a good piece of opportunistic driving, but I wouldn't call it the
pass of the decade by any means. Reminded me of Mansell's pass on Senna
at Hungary as they came up to a backmarker.
Also it was a bit rich of Ron to complain about Schumacher's aggressive
defence being dangerous when Hakkinen himself took a big chance that
Zonta wouldn't move over during the pass. Could have been a *big*
accident, that.

Oh sorry but have you ever seen a backmarker move all the way to the grass
on such as wide track, don't think so.
Backmarkers never just change lines at those speeds. And look at Zonta's
head he didn't even have a clue Mika was beside him but he still kept going
straight on.
The fact that Michael had tried to push Mika of the track the lap before,
made the pass even more impressive. It was a beautifull pass under hard
circumstances that's why Ron liked it so much (and because it was Mika
ofcourse).

"Near the end of the race I saw Schumacher and Hakkinen in my mirrors
as I was going through Eau Rouge so I slowed on the following straight
and just stayed in the middle of the track to give them room," Zonta
said. "It was an amazing view as they went past on either side of my
car."

Seems like Zonta with his situational awareness has to be thanked,
otherwise that desperate attempt from Mika could easily have ended
in one of F1's worst accidents.
Unlike for instance Zanardi's move on Herta, which was stunning but
not life threatening to either of the drivers.
Oh well, if you succeed you are a hero ...

I guess you are a ferrarri fan. Most of them think the same thing.

Well you "take a chance" on every overtaking attempt. What exactly
is your point with all this? Kind of sounds like sour grapes to me.

This will play it automatically - it's a .asf file. You can also
right-click on the link on the actual web page that pops up first to save
the file to disk. You can try changing "spa7" to get other clips - there
are 8 in all (I think), and 7 and 8 are replays of the "The Pass" from
different cameras.
Gotta love those Russians :)
Enjoy!

The first I saw of it was a message on the F1 newsgroup today, with a link
to "spa5", which is Mika's spin. Started playing around, and got a BIG
smile on my face.
Haven't successfully gotten anything from other races - trying to work out
the naming convention. For instance, plugging in "hockenheim" doesn't work,
but "monaco" does, just haven't succeeded in getting any files yet.

! Certainly not - I'm not a fan of any particular team, I just want to
see good racing. And I should say Sunday's race certainly lived up to
that - it's a pity there aren't more racetracks as good as Spa.
Just to balance things up, I think Schumacher is well overrated by many
when they say he's by far the best driver. Hakkinen is at least as good
in dry weather. Schumacher comes into his element in variable conditions
like last weekend.
I've got no axe to grind here, I don't care who wins the WC - I just
think Ron protests too much. I certainly don't blame Mika for taking the
chance - any racing driver worth his salt would have done the same thing.

How time flies...............
The pass actually reminded me more of the Mansell/Piquet duel at Silverstone
in '87, just for the drama of the chase. You knew he was going to catch
him, you just didn't know what would happen when he got there. Also
reminded me of the Senna/Prost battle at Hockenheim in '89, except that
Prost's 6th gear gave up before we got to see an overtaking attempt (which
might never have come - turbulence was starting to become an issue even
then).
