Can anybody point me towards a place where I might find information on
GPL track editing? I'm curious and would like to fiddle with a track
of my own design. Since so many new tracks have been made I certainly
don't want to reinvent the wheel by decoding all the track files from
scratch. I doubt the decoding is within my capabilities anyway.
Is this information available, or do The GPLEA, Dave Noonan and the
like consider it proprietary (since they figured it out themselves) and
not give it out? Thanks.

There isn't a lot - certainly there isn't a fully working track editor
to the standard of the GP2 one. What there is, though...
http://www.the-fastlane.com/opensrc/
has an early version of an open-source editor, though the page hasn't
been updated for over a year, so I assume the project's dead.
There is also some info on GPL file formats on Phil Flack's site at:
http://come.to/genghis
but again this hasn't been updated this year.
