I ran a 15% GP at Spa yesterday, as my Achilles is finally healed
enough for short races. I qualified 5th, and had no problem at the
start at all. I had just upgraded my P3-600E to a P3-750E. The little
bump in CPU seems just the ticket for the start line problems.
Previously with the 600E I would get 15fps @800x600 (12fps
on the grid) with most stuff turned on and or maxed out. Now
I was getting 18fps during the race and 15fps on the grid.
Right off the line I took second at la source. No one bumped me
no crappy framerate, just a good race start. I found that after burning
a few laps of fuel, I could take eau rouge flat out. As I re-learned the
track eau rouge was no big deal at all. In fact the whole track looked
*VERY* close to what I saw on TV this past weekend.
Anyway my new recommendation for F1 2000 is at least a
P3-750E ;-)

F1 2000 at Spa: fun versus track accuracy
Greg Cisko enjoyed a race at Spa in F1 2000 after a CPU upgrade, but HJ Ventura and others said the track, especially Eau Rouge, was inaccurate and too narrow. Several argued exact accuracy matters less than enjoyable racing, and add-on graphics fixes for F1 2000 tracks were linked.
Automated summary.
Hi,
I search for the options.mas file. Is Anyone could send it

I extract all *.uha files (options.uha too) but the

Oh, please the track model couldn't be worse. Eau Rouge is so bad, and the
track far too narrow.

This is pure bullshit. Believe me i am a F1 2000 fan. But the track is not
accurate at all. In F1 2000 its hardly possible to drive with two cars side
by side after eau rouge. Well did you see the real race? Mika, Shumi and
Zonta side by side...
Not only that. In F1 2000 going flat in eau rouge is so EASY. You cannot
compare that with real F1 races. Check the post with 'going flat through eau
rouge' again. Some drivers do it, but others are lifting. In F1 2000 its way
too simple. Without altering any file (!!!!), i managed to do a 1:45:231 at
Spa/Belgium. Thats not like real F1 racing at all. They did something like
1:51 during qualifying.
So please....... check it again !!! Again I like F1 2000 really much, but
what you were saying is bullshit.

Somehow I've got the impression that F12000 is in its worst in modelling
the Monza track... To me for ex. the Imola of F12000 was quite good.
But there really is something wrong with Monza...? Even the huge and

graphical errors: some tree branch hanging _on_ the Parabolca... ??

PS GP3 is much better in Monza, but my MSFF is still turning to left...
Do I dare to use any "registry" patch? And which one of these?
I've found at least 3 different ones. And they all say they'll

It would be pointless to agrue on this topic with him. I really like the
track, he doesn't...
Oh and I was passing (and being passed) on the straight after Eau
Rouge and the long straight before the bus stop chicane. So it is not
too narrow for that. Maybe I am just a better driver :-) And I do believe
the track is wide enough to go 3 wide at the same spot that Mika
passed Michael. Also I believe the bus stop chicane is modeled
very good. Plus the slight banking and very apparent downhill
modeling in Malmedy is awesome. But hey... whatever.

I really likeI'm with you on this one, Greg -- plus, I've watched several different
in-car laps at Spa that I've found on the Web, and as far as I'm
concerned, BOTH F1 2000 and GP3 are close enough for me. There are
actually parts of GP3 that don't look right, but, like you, I'm not one
to nit-pick about track details -- it's not the scenery, it's the speed
and action that counts!

Ditto.
I think this is why I am at odds with people that slam the F1 2000
tracks. They make it sound like the sim is undrivable or unusable.
That is just plain non-sense.

Read my answer again. I twice mentioned that i like F1 2000 (and also the
Spa track). I was only saying thats its not accurate at all (thats not an
opinion, thats a fact...)
> Oh and I was passing (and being passed) on the straight after Eau

Hahaha. Ofcourse I know you can pass somebody. I didnt say that it is
impossible to do that. So read again. Maybe you are a better driver (i doubt
it, but ofcourse its possible), but it has nothing to do with this
discussion. Btw maybe you should race me online once....
And I do believe

Ofcourse thats your opinion.
1. Eau Rouge is too simple in F1 2000
2. i dont think you can go 3 wide
3. the laptimes are much too quick with F1 2000 (at least mine are!! without
altering...!)
4. the curbes arenot realistic at all
But I like it anyway. Simply because I like the physics of F1 2000 very
much.
Sorry for saying 'bullshit'. I take it back.

I agree on that Greg !! So again; i think you were a little offended by the
fact that I used the word 'bullshit' in my first reaction. I apologize for
that. But again, I like F1 2000 most. I was just talking about accuracy.
Some tracks are pretty accurate (I think Austria was pretty realistic...?),
but i was a little disappointed by Spa.
Really, I just won my first ai single race at Monza, 25%, man it was a blast
starting at the rear of the field and working my way up. The patch really
improved the ai's behaviour.

Similarly, I'm a hardcore simmer, but not as hardcore as all. Same happened
in the FS newsgroup, where I considered myself hardcore. But then there came
along a whole bunch who wanted to have to LN2 cool the heatseekers for 30sec
before using. Or those here who want to toggle all the IP controls. So, we
are all fans varying from arcaders, medium, hard core, ultra. Some will find
that nothing but perfection suits them. Hopefully there will be sims that can
satisfy all.
As to the thread at hand, I too felt that F12K's Spa was way off when I first
played it. Eu Rouge seemed strange after the Crammond and Ubisoft titles.
But when watching the Coulthard in-car over and over, I can't say it was that
obviously off. Yes, all the tracks seem too narrow when in the car (though
the tracks look plenty wide from an outside car, wide angle shot).
Bigger problem I have with Spa is the AI. They are set to use the "speed"
setup and are much faster than in real life (210+ heading to Les Combes vs
about 180-190 if the on-screen info during the race was correct). They lose
that advantage by braking to about 120 through Blanchmont whereas the real
drivers (and me in the game even with the speed setting) take it flat or
near flat-out. I'm sure someone probably already has a fix posted at
bhmotorsports, but it shouldn't have been released as-is. Last, there is the
smaller bug of allowing them to use that first out-lap for fast laps
(short-cutting La Source hairpin).
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the track layouts. There are some small
problems I've found, but not killers. The AI gives me much more pause.

Well I haven't driven much since I tore my achilles tendon and

be willing to try F1 2000 online racing. Oh and the ":-)" after

When I first tried Spa in F1 2000, I thought for sure that Eau Rouge
was porked. However as I drove it I found a driving line which is
fairly straight and in some cases would cut a little into the grass
exiting the complex.

Same here. Certainly nothing to dismiss the game over. I thought
the bus stop in F1 2000 was the best model of all the other modern
F1 games I tried (F1RS, World Circuit, GP2).
