OK, OK, the world probably doesn't need another GP3 v.s. F1 2000 diatribe, but I was just amazed by what I saw today. I played F1 2000 for months after it was introduced and loved it. Patched it, turned the special graphic bits (skid marks, smoke, skybox, etc) down to "low", turned the mirrors off and limited the number of visible vehicles to get a reasonable frame rate on my P3 550, V3 3000, 128MB system. The main graphics settings were at "high" or "max". Lots of fun, looked good to me, and it was great to be "in the midst" of the current season. Then I ignored it for a month or so, playing GPL while waiting for GP3 to arrive in North America. Started playing GP3 and thought the graphics were OK, not spectacular - nice rain effect, nice car detail up close, occasionally annoying Z-order screw ups, dumb floating pit cars and sliding jackmen, but generally OK. Today, a friend was over to try GP3 at the Spa and Monza tracks. He was curious to see how F1 2000 compared so we fired up the same tracks. I couldn't believe the difference. F1 2000 was like going back to a cartoon compared to the "reality" of GP3. Both of these were at 1024x768. I still think GP3 looks a little too "faded", but F1 2000 was so harsh and clunky. Playing F1 2000 also reminded me of its erratic fps hesitations from time to time. When I was playing it a lot, I just accepted it. But GP3 seemed so silky smooth by comparison. Graphically, I didn't expect to see so large a difference between the two sims. Amazing. Now if only they would just rip out GP3's user interface and start again. Man, it's pathetic. Too many steps to do simple things, inconsistent methods, ignoring modern conventions people are used to and on and on. Yuck. F1 2000 is miles ahead in that department. But bottom line, the racing feels better in GP3, so that's where I'll spend my time. I'm sure I'll get a number of intense responses from Mr. Cisko et al, but I just *had* to share. <g> ...Klinn
No argument here. :) "Klinn" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Rths5.1578$[email hidden]... > OK, OK, the world probably doesn't need another GP3 v.s. Actually, if you use a V5 FSAA, F12000 looks beautiful and clean. However, I do find that, in F12000, your car seems to loose tire grip after 12 to 16 laps. I don't really think that in a real F1 car the tires can loose grip so fast. In F12000, the AIs just drive too fast in the straight with 90% strength. The Yellow Flag in F12000 is a joke. No one slows down. :-) "Klinn" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Rths5.1578$[email hidden]...

On Sun, 03 Sep 2000 04:16:03 GMT, "Victor Chan" <[email hidden]> enlightened us all with these kind words of wisdom: >The Yellow Flag in F12000 is a joke. >No one slows down. :-) You've raised an interesting point there. I'm trying to think of any racing sims which implement a fully working flag system that actually work. Nascar Racing 1, 2 and 3 have always coped fairly well with yellow flags, but the car behaviour of the AI has always seemed a little solid, as if they're only capable of following one path, at one speed. Best regards, Moon-Watcher
HI VICTOR are you kidding me ? passing with 90% is absolutely no problem AI cars are exceptionally slow at the corners Just overshoot them at their braking point and then you will need to overbrake them ( brake harder than they ) and you have done it !!! Just do it at the corners It is a dead give away What I would like to see is some blue flag I have been giving schumi a taste of his own medicine again and again , all without the penalty :-) Victor Chan <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:y1Fs5.16797$[email hidden]... > He he he.........passing in F12000 is very, very hard, for me, with 90% AIstrength with > no driving assistance.
