GP3 qualifying grid bug and Greg Cisko's criticisms

Players discussed GP3 sending you to the back of the grid if you quit qualifying early, a behaviour carried over from GP2, and how to avoid it. The thread turned into a familiar exchange in which Greg Cisko criticised GP3's slow-motion, network play and lack of opponent sounds without having played it, and Ian P argued he should try it first, ending amicably.

X In the original release of F1 2000 the AI could not get around some of the tracks : ) Spa, Brazil, Magny Cours F1 2000 set a new standard for poor AI. I don't blame Image Space though I think it was pressure from EA. The fundamentals of the AI in F1 2000 are better than any other sim they actually drive with a proper setup. It was just rushed. The Patch has improved things but I think we may have to wait for the championship edition or F1 2001 to see what they really can do. When you exit the game after qualifying and then re-enter you start 22nd. It's a bug, hopefully adressed in the patch along with SPLIT AXIS. If you do in F1 2000 you will keep your time and settle for whatever position that time would give you. I seem to remember in Gp2 though that if you quit the qualifying early, you would take the rear of the grid (just like if you never qualified). I would have hope this wouldn't have been ported in to Gp3. If I am right, it sounds like the only thing they added was wet weather.

Another feature I seem to remember from GP2 was that the lead car was very difficult to chase down. If you were somehow able to catch him and take the lead, you could walk away. Anyone remember this? -- [email hidden]

You have to accelerate time to the end of qualifying to keep your qualifying position in GP2 and GP3. In GP3, if you won't be racing in the same session after qualifying, the way to ensure you keep your grid position is to save the game before end of qualifying, then accelerate time when you restart it. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> Greg Cisko <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:rF5t5.34704$[email hidden]... > "Tim McArthur" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:39b473e4.32273179@news... > > I just raced a 100% distance race at Monaco last week. + improved much more lively physics + improved AI + moving 3D cockpit + banking in tracks + force feedback + better graphics + up to 1280 x 1024 resolution + better performance, very playable on the average machines of today GP3 has its flaws, a number of things did not change from GP2 and it took them a long time to publish it, but you cannot say it's only GP2 plus wet weather. That does not do it justice. Bart Westra

Well, about the issues he mentions technically he's right, though there is a but ;) The network play works fine for me in 2 player on my LAN. The car - pit radio isn't in GP3, but the same in F1 2000 really annoys me because it is always giving false information. You don't hear the other cars, but again I believe this to be closer to realistic than hearing them on the opposite side of the track as in F1 2000. The slowmo problem is still in GP3, but in all fairness apart from the first corner it is an absolute non issue on a middle range or above PC. If he dislikes GP3 after actually trying it I'd respect his opinion, the world would be a dull place if we all liked the same things. If he doesn't even try it then I won't. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> EldredP <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In article <8p423j$o6q$[email hidden]>, "Ian P" <[email hidden]> > writes: > > >Same old story. > > > >If you ever decide to at least play the game, I'll be prepared to take your > >opinion seriously. > > > >-- > >Ian P > ><email invalid due to spam> > > > >Greg Cisko <[email hidden]> wrote in message > >news:2zet5.35983$[email hidden]... > >> "Ian P" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > >> news:8p3ajq$iff$[email hidden]... > >> > Besides which, he hasn't even played it. I can understand you being tired of hearing his dislikes about it *constantly*...<g> If there are certain feature about a program that someone doesn't like, does it really matter that he hasn't actually bought the game? Him buying it won't change the fact that certain things he wants aren't in there. To me, a 2-player race sounds like a waste of time. If the players aren't of similar skill, it's a runaway victory... I know that the slowmo issus WOULD probably affect me, I only have a 400mhz/V3 system.
