Flame warPoster accused of piracy after ISP complaint

Michael Lapsley complained that someone had reported him to his ISP for supposedly posting about hacking. Barton Brown admitted making the complaint, citing posts about warez, but others pointed out he had confused Back Orifice with Back Office and attributed another poster's words to Lapsley. Many criticised the reporting and mocked the episode.

I have just received mail from my shell provider stating that I have been accused of posting concerning hacking and illegal activity, almost certainly from the readers of this NG. This is a gross outrage, as no amount of torturing the English language could extract any such meaning from my posts. I suppose it is too much to expect the toad(s) to reveal him/theirselves as it is more comfortable, not to say cowardly, to remain anonymous. For the everyone else, though, it does no harm to know what kind of creatures inhabit this particular pond. Note: I for one do not hide behind pseudonyms; I believe that if one is prepared to say something in public then one should be prepared to defend it. Michael

Sorry buster -- you publicly brag that you DL Warez and now you try to claim you didn't? Let me refresh your memory: "You make a good point, I also have a small amount of warez but if I use a product a lot then I will buy the full version. I downloaded the warez of GP3 and then bought the game a few weeks later. The warez demo made me buy the game because I had a chance to try before I bought. I also have the warez of PSP, because the cost of buying the programme outright is just too much (and I have a very good job!) On the other hand I will not download tracks and addons from The French Pits because I know that Dave Noonan is not getting millions for his tracks and he deserves the right to be able to release them himself when he is ready. Hypocritical? Maybe, but at least I'm honest about it." Well, that makes it all right then, huh? > I suppose it is too much to expect the toad(s) to reveal him/theirselves > as it is more comfortable, not to say cowardly, to remain anonymous. No problem at all, Matty. > > For the everyone else, though, it does no harm to know what kind of creatures > inhabit this particular pond. You've shown yourself time and again, I don't think anyone's surprised. > Note: I for one do not hide behind pseudonyms; I believe that if one is > prepared to say something in public then one should be prepared to defend it. OK, defend the "small amount of Warez"; defend the DLing of BackOffice. BTW, keep them personal posts coming, laddie -- your ISP's eatin' 'em up. BB
Personally, I think you both should probably go to your rooms... What did you have done in the body and fender shop Barton? Did you get a righteous indignation transplant or something? Most people have sufficient stimulation in their real lives that they've no spare time to give a shit about what you're stirring the pot over. I'd think between the slot cars, the scale modeling, and the racing sims you wouldn't have the free time to devote to complicating a total stranger's life. (I always try to keep in mind that the person I'm contemplating annoying could possibly have a psycho skin-head brother-in-law who *just happens* to live a mere six blocks from me... LOL) You know you can be right about something and still be wrong. Geez... Brett C. Cammack That's Racing! Motorsports Pompano Beach, FL

Well, if the synaptically challened Mr Brown is capable of working his newsreader and interpreting what appears on screen he would recognise the sender of the above as '[email hidden] (Matt)' post id <[email hidden]> _NOT_ me. Secondly he cannot tell his office from his orifice: doesn't surprise me. Michael

If so I guess the ISP's of some of the more well-known people in this ng can be expecting some mail soon... -- Cheers! Graeme Nash
