I still use the "holy shit where did that corner come from !!! After an intensive week at the 'Ring (8:27.51, yay!), I managed last night to run through the entire circuit in my mind. Every corner is now chiselled into my brain, the neural networks have reorganised accordingly. In a way I do have a photographic memory, but it takes about 30 "exposures" to create something distinct on the "photograph". Some people have the gift of doing the same after only 1 "exposure". So what about you? Do you have the 'Ring fully memorised? Or do you need "visual clues" which unlock the memory of various portions of the track - a sort of "recall as you go" method? Bendito;
When you ran through the circuit in your mind, did you spin? Anyway, I don't know the ring well enough to say draw the track map from memory. I seem to remember it in groups of turns and scenery clues, seems to work ok though. I've driven probably less than fifty laps there though. "Bendito" <[email hidden]> wrote > Do you have the 'Ring fully memorised? I doubt I could list you by memory all the turns one after the other (I especially can't remember all the corners in the 2/3rd part of the circuit a little after the Karrussell. There is 3 similar section in that portion of the circuit with 3 elevations going up/right, with a final drop to the left. > Or do you need "visual clues" which unlock the memory of > various portions of the track - a sort of "recall as you go" method? Visual clues are for me the trick. I have about 5-6 places that when I pass them I know exactly the next 15-20corners, how to take them, what gear/speed/weight shifting. I'll evently find myself on a next *track marker*, remembering the next 20 corners. Actually it goes something like this : 1) Start/finish line until Flugplatz 2) Flugplatz until Adenauer-Forst 3) Adenauer-Forst until Kesselchen 4) Kesselchen until Wippermann 5) Wippermann until Schwalbenschwanz 6) Schwalbenschwanz until the start/finish line Those are my track markers :) -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

Oh, I couldn't draw the track map, because that requires distance judgement (how long are the straights, radius of the turns), not just the appearance of the turns in my visual memory. Bendito;

I have the track well memorized until I reach Wippermann. Something about the section between that corner and Pflantzgarten seems to induce blankness in my mind. In general, though, each of my laps is divided into several "Oh shit, don't screw up!" points: 1. Flugplatz-"Get that landing right or it's all over!" 2. Fuchsrohre-"Don't bottom out or you'll hit that tree!" 3. Ex-Muhle-"Easy on the gas or you'll spin out!" 4. Kesselchen-"Do NOT take the mini-Masta too fast and bounce off the mountainside!" 5. Karussell-"A mistake here means two things: I've lost time, but even worse, the replay will look awful!" 6. Wippermann-Pflantzgarten-"I hate a good reducing-radius corner." And finally... 7. Tiergarten-"I don't care how ugly it looks nor how fast I can take it on spoiled laps. I'm going to finish this one cleanly!" Martin Long Live Nigel Mansell!

OK, I didn't write this but I will probably always remember this post and who wrote it. Went back at Deja.com and found it. I hope he doesn't mind me re-posting it for him.
