Morning,
just wanted to share a thought I had last night. Picked up GP3 a few
days back and was only playing SCGT for about a month prior to that.
Just on a wild hair I started up NFS:Porsche Unleashed last night just
for a couple of quick races. After the first race I had shaved 12
seconds off of my PB and after the second race I had shaved another 5
seconds off my PB. I know those sound like huge numbers so it would
appear that I had slow times to begin with but in reality I had some
pretty fair times (not world records but within distant view of them).
This just amazed the hell out of me and the only thing I can attribute
it to is the other 2 sims. I played only NFS:PU prior to a month ago
(for about 6 - 7 months) and thoroughly enjoy it but had pretty much hit
a plateau in setting new PBs after the first 3 - 4 months.
All I can figure is that a variety of sims helped my overall control
(or lessened my lack thereof). If I can ever find GPL it should help as
well. The moral is that if I only stayed with one sim I am not sure I
would increase my times as quickly as playing 2 - 3 sims seems to (and
no I don't have ADD). :)
I know (from reading the group) there are some folks here that don't
consider NFS:PU to be a "real" sim and I am not trying to start a
flamewar or contempt session from those who are more "pure" than I am.
I am here to have fun with racing games and I believe that NFS:PU is
tunable enough to qualify as a fair sim. Having said that, I wouldn't
include any other NFS title in the catagory of "sim" for love nor money.
Anyone else experience something like this or was it just coincidence?
Joel
The pinnacle of open systems is: when moving from vendor to vendor, the
design flaws stay the same.
