Is the NASCAR Legends demo significantly different from the final game?
Because I tried the demo that came with a local gaming magazine CD, and
thought it was about the suckiest racing "simulator" I've driven in a while.
The physics/dynamics were incredibly wooden. Powerslide/F12000/SCGT all blow
it out of the water for realism, IMHO. If N3 (which I haven't tried) is
anything like the NASCAR Legends demo, then I can see why NASCAR Heat is
causing such a fuss.

thanks for the heads up!
Well you are on target there...the NL, N3 engine powering these two is
really an update of N2 and N99. The biggest improvements come from
increased graphic support and mulitiplayer. NO WHERE ELSE ON THIS PLANET
can you race with 32 other drivers(provided they have good pings)
While not perfect the multiplayer aspect of N3 is a huge step forward.
N4 will NOT be evolutionary like n2/n99/n3 but a whole new package based
on the gpl engine.(but not just gpl with fenders) I think those who like
NH driving will also like that found in N4. These are good times for sim
drivers..
Ubi-soft has a new effort comming out this fall...and maybe someday...a
new CART sim from somebody.

We who care about NL whine about the lack of enthusiasm but nothing gets
done. Meatwater's suggestion is a good one, but who will actually start it
and organize it? I've gone online with NL many times and found no one at
all there, I've hosted for as long as an hour with no one showing up :(
It pains me to see the lack of interest. Unless you're a purist, all tracks
in N3 including any converted N2/99 tracks can be used in NL by converting
the color pallet with a program called NasPalFix. The tools are there for
us NL lovers, it's up to us to use them :)
One of the "projects" that has been put on hold by all the problems the
Pits has been having, is a early 70's trans am patch using NL. It would
work very similar to the TPTCC touring car patch but use NL for it's two
body shapes and of course the online capability. I Haven't heard much at
all lately about any progress on that item tho.

I love Legends even with it's outdated physics engine. I've grown quite
accustomed to 3D physics in GPL and now NHeat so going back to Papy's old
engine always feels kind of flat. Still, though, Legends is awesome! I wasn't
alive then, but there's just something about those old cars and tracks. I love
the short tracks too. Disappointing that the big stock car series' are all
moving over 1.5 mile superspeedways and leaving the short tracks to go broke.

HEADS UP!
On Saturday, Sept. 9th, I will be hosting a NL race at 0200hrs AM CET
(daylight savings time).
Track: RIVERSIDE
Length: 20%
Damage: Arcade
Pacelap: ON
DFile: ON
SETUPS: whatever you geezers come up with
Further details (like a few rules) to be announced via email.
The race will ONLY take part if AT LEAST 10 drivers contact me via email. It
wouldn't be fair to expect me to stay up that late *hoping* someone would
join the race, right? So: no more whining, polish them cars and get in the
ring!!!

Maybe because the thought of a Trans Am sim has been a popular wish in
the community. It would probably be a bigger drawing point.

> Well in the case of the original Touring Car Patch. I had put N2 on the
shelf. I was done with that product. I "chanced" on a mention of a
touring car patch made for N2 while digging into a "real" racing site. I
found the patch, joined the league, and have put FAR FAR FAR more laps into
the converted N2 and N99 than I ever did the original. Now I have to say,
I'm a big fan of the Superbirds and Daytona's so NL has built in appeal for
me...but I think the user base here in ras would be more attuned to other
types of racing than just ovals. If a Trans Am Patch featuring Boss
Mustangs, and Camaro's and Javelins(and CUDAS!!) can generate more buzz than
the Superbirds...so be it.
I still have INDYCAR 2, but I rarely even have it on my harddrive...it's a
track pak, nothing more...yet CART racing is my #1 spectator favorite.
Touring Cars comes next...followed by F1, Nascar and WHATEVER else with
wheels and wings ties for the next slot.

OK everyone, come and see what I spent this night on:
THE LEGENDS OPEN NIGHT. @ http://www.meatwater.com/nlegends
After seeing that there ARE people out there who DO care about NASCAR
Legends I thought it'd be a good move to start this project.
Spread the word!
