Just did a clean install with Windows ME on my game computer, went to the
Logitech site and they say don't use the Wingman Formula Force Drivers with
ME.
Should I go for it?
Wait for the ME drivers?
Or forget about it and go back to Win98?

Win ME is nothing but windows 98 with without the ability to boot to a
DOS prompt. Your Win98 drivers will work fine.

ME is an evolutionary upgrade to the Windows Consumer OS line. It is a LOT
more than just Win98 with DOS removed.
First, all of DOS is NOT removed. Real-Mode DOS is what is gone. It's a
lot like NT/2000 now...
Second, there are some nice features in ME. Not everyone has found all the
hidden ones yet.
Like the ability to re-assign the location of your "My Documents" folder.
That feature was introduced with Windows 2000, and along with the Windows
2000 Interface ME brings this feature as well. Just right-click on the "My
Documents" folder and select properties.
This is wonderful if you are running a dual-boot system with ME and 2000
(Like I am) and have a separate partition for documents. I can set both
boots to use the same partition as "My Documents" storage :)
There's more. Look for it. Or, maybe even _try_ it and don't base
everything on what you read on the net.
ME is a nice upgrade and I have NO problem paying the $49 for it.
It also supports my scanner and camera very nicely.
ME also seems to work with VIA Athlon Chipsets better, though time will tell
on this one.

In another thread you said you had a clean install of Windows ME. I'd
be interested to know how you did a clean install with a 49$ upgrade
disk.

well?
I assume its like all other MS products, ie the upgrades prompt for a
location of the old product, so then just point to the W98 CD.

Daxe,
I would guess he did it the same way I did it. Give WWW.OUTPOST.COM my
$39.00 per copy, free overnight shipping, then take the Win98 Microsoft
provided boot floppy, boot to DOS with CDROM support, insert the Windows 98
to Windows ME UPGRADE CD, run SETUP.EXE. When it asks for proof of Windows
98 I inserted the Win98 Full CD, it checked, said thanks, and went on it's
merry way.
This was to a brand new, freshly formated / partitioned Maxtor 40 gig ATA
100 drive.
Just like the Win95 UPGRADE CD would ask for the Win 3.xx floppies, Win ME
just wants to veryfy you qualify for the UPGRADE. It is a full version, it
just checks for an origional Win98 somewhere. And in the case of a CLEAN
install, I had to provide the CD.
It may, or may not take the Win98 UPGRADE CD as proof. I don't know, I
didn't try that. When I put it on my other machines I will try that and see
if it will work that way.
**** DISCLAMER ****
I have three seperate copies of ME. At $39 it wasn't that big a deal. Oh,
and I have two ORIGIONAL Win98 CDs, and one Win98 UPGRADE CD. So, I do in
fact qualify for my three UPGRADE CDs.
**** DISCLAMER ****
The above disclaimer is just to head off any ISP notifications, flame wars,
or other silliness.
Enjoy!

Ah yes, I forgot about this method. That's what I get for posting in
the middle of the might when I have a cold.
~daxe
It's very simple.
1. Format Hard Drive.
2. Create c:\windows\options\cabs directory.
3. Copy contents of Win9x CD to the above directory.
4. Run the Setup Program in the above directory.
5. Insert your qualifying Win98 CD when it asks to validate your
eligibility for the upgrade.
Done deal...
It is not like the pathetic Win98se 'Step Up' where you had to fully install
Win98 first, thank goodness!
