On Wed, 13 Sep 2000 01:11:45 GMT, daxe <[email hidden]> enlightened us all with these kind words of wisdom:
Most of these titles bring back some long-forgotten memories. Thanks for posting about the Gaming Depot.
Can't wait to download them all and remember what it used to be like playing them, thinking that those games were about as realistic as they were
likely to ever get. :-)
>I suppose someone is going to freak out about warez, but if the
>company that made it doesn't even want to sell it to you anymore and
>you want it, what else are you supposed to do?
I'm not sure I would class these games as being Warez, because they're of absolutely no profit-making value.
I'm not too sure if one could consider those titles a part of Warez. They're of absolutely no profit-making value. If games like Grand Theft Auto are
being considered unprofitable, because of their age, and are being given away legally by several companies, then games as old as the ones above are of
no use to anybody besides those people like myself, who wish to rekindle old memories.
Many thanks again.
Best regards,
Moon-Watcher
Hi rasers,
I was curious after asking about Stunt Driver if there were
any references to it on the web. I found this site:
http://gamingdepot.com/
It claims to be a repository for 'abandonware.' On the page for
racing games, it offers these for download:
4D Sports Driving
4X4 Off-Road Racing
Cisco Heat
Crazy Cars
Crazy Cars 3
Cycles: International Gran Prix Racing, The
Fire & Forget 2: The Death Convoy
Grand Prix 500 2
Indianapolis 500 <<<<yes, it's the papyrus one
Lamborghini: American Challenge
Micro Machines
Off Road
Outrun
Pitstop 2
Quarantine
Space Racer
Street Rod
Street Rod 2
S.T.U.N. Runner
Stunt Car Racer
Stunt Driver
Stunts
Super Bike Challenge
Test Drive
Test Drive 2: The Duel
Test Drive 3: The Passion
Tunnels of Armageddon
Vette!
Vroom
Somebody may find some memories there! Take a look.
I suppose someone is going to freak out about warez, but if the
company that made it doesn't even want to sell it to you anymore and
you want it, what else are you supposed to do?

I just got a Download Problem screen whenever I tried to download anything?
Anyone else had any luck?

I was able to download stuff easily. I noticed it didn't do the right
click "save target as" correctly. It would save an html file. I had
to actually click the link, even though what appeared to be a URL
ending with *.zip was what was indicated for the link in the status
bar.
I believe some sites do that so you cannot put up a link to a file on
their site. The http request for the file has to come from their
server or something like that, thus the html page which calls the
file, rather than a straight URL for the file. I probably have that
all mixed up, but you get the idea.

Okay, thanxe daxe, I will give that a go.

I haven't looked at the site, but it's possible it was calling a script,
i.e. the zip file at the end of the URL was not the target, but the
parameter to the target.

The href
attribute points directly to the zip archive, nothing funny about that (I'm
using Netscape Communicator 4.74 and GetRight 4.1.1).
I also tried to type the URL for "Lamborghini: Anmerican Challenge" directly in
the location toolbar and that worked OK as well
So I thought maybe Micro$haft Intersuck Exploder is playing up so I fired up my
copy (M$IE 5.00 (swedish), still with GetRight 4.1.1), "Save Target As" prompted
me for a path on my harddrive and started downloading as it should
So, no funny things going on and there shouldn't be any downloading problems
other than busy lines.
