Bruce you identified the weaknesses of NH pretty well. You forgot the small multiplayer fields tho...:) We have heard small rumours that several of the issues you raised will be corrected in a patch...but who knows? NH in it's present state is better than any current Nascar sim EXCEPT for N3's larger Multiplayer fields and the ability to custom paint the cars. Here's hoping MGI can put together a patch that satisfies most of us... dave henrie "Bruce Kennewell" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Thanks to Don Hodgdon I was able to take delivery of a brand-new copy ofNH

Thanks to Don Hodgdon I was able to take delivery of a brand-new copy of NH. I publicly thank him for the time and trouble that he went to in order to buy a copy for me and ship it Down Under. The game? I thinks that it's fun, it's certainly different from GPL and definitely miles ahead of N1, N2 and N3! There are one or two aspects which I find odd, however. And I will preface these comments by saying that yes, I am running in Hardcore mode with All Flags enabled and yes, I have been into the config.ini file and made approriate tweaks for graphics and what-have-you. The damage model, both the realism and the graphical portrayal of same, is very weak. Almost non-existent, in fact. (No, I haven't enabled vertex modelling...tried it in the demo and it was as slow as a wet week when loading a track). These cars are TOUGH! :-) I can bounce off walls and other competitors to my heart's content and still keep motoring along. Yellow flags are very sparse, aren't they? From what I've seen of NASCAR racing on TV here, yellows seem to be waved at every available opportunity. Yet in the game, I hardly ever see them. I've had some doozies of spins and flips and gyrations but nope....no yellow flag. I've also had several pile-ups where the flag WAS used, but that doesn't seem to be the norm. The spotters voice is not realistic. It sounds like he's on stage or in a studio, not on a 2-way hand-held FM radio! The AI behave rather oddly when under a yellow....they bang and crash about....coming into pit road once I actually saw one car get thrown into the air!! And what's with being stopped at the end of the pit road to wait until the pace car comes past? Does that really happen? Apart from these idiosyncracies I quite enjoy the game and it's a nice change of pace from GPL for me. But I must confess to being a slip-streaming, high-speed fan....LOVE the longer speedways, HATE the dinky little Bristols and Martinsvilles. The two road courses are great fun...particularly the Glen. I have yet to complete a full-length race; I have, however, managed several completions of 50% races. None of my finishing positions were worth writing home about! Nice job, MGI. I do hope that you can do something about the damage and yellows, however. Oh well....back to Michigan! -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. ---------------------------
In case you haven't seen it, here the official statement about the awaiting patch http://www.simracingnews.com/article.cfm?news_id=1743 It is a great game! what I miss the most is the save game option that is lacking! not necessarily the save game while in the race as much as being able to save after qualifying! N3 had all that! I do spend some time practicing tweaking the setup and than qualifying and when you count in the race... we are talking 5 hours of racing! I can't take that even if I had 5 hours to spare... Anyway I'm not complaining NH will be perfect as soon as the car damage and the flags come in place... What does Vortex damage change since my game crushes when I turn it on!? The expected patch is supposed to address your points . I also note that the AI seems to be running a different physics model judgeing from their braking ability going into pit lane! Several times I have had a nice race go to pieces on me when a speeding AI rear ended me and punted me through the timeing lights on the pit lane at high speed usually spinning madly. The resultant black flag can cost you a lap on the short tracks and certainly drops you from the lead draft on the speedways. A little coding that monitors for collisions occuring X number of seconds before pit lane entry ( and could thus switch black flags on or off) would be nice. David
You'll discover that NH is basically a POS in its current state if you expect it to act anything like a simulation. The patch may fix some of this, but who knows? Until then, if you purchase it expecting a sim--be warned. Buy it at your own risk. NH was NOT designed for the typical contributor to this newsgroup in mind, IMO. Right now, it's just another arcade racing game with very good driving physics. Jerry Morelock

LOL... Goy, did you hear that Holden scored a 1 - 2 - 3 in todays Queensland 500, the build-up to Bathurst, and that is after the Falcon camps complained about not being competitive with the Holdens, so they were given more goodies to try and keep up. :)) Seems Falcons best bet would be to run commodores.. <G> Let the flames begin. :) Cheers, Ron Goy Larsen <[email hidden]> wrote in article <[email hidden]>...

Thanks, Dave. Glad I'm not a lone voice. But multiplayer, whilst of extremely high importance to a lot of RAS, is of no interest to me......and there rests my desire to see the yellow flag situation rectified. Hopefully the rumours will bear fruit! I certainly agree that Heat is the best NASCAR sim to be released to date. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Dave Henrie <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:dcGu5.66126$[email hidden]... > Bruce you identified the weaknesses of NH pretty well. Ah, yes! I forgot to include that little oddity in my mention of the AI, David. Which reminds me......I really don't like receiving the black flag for speeding in pit lane when I am wildly spinning out of control on the beautifully manicured lawn just to the *right* of pit lane! :-) I'd expect a yellow to come out but to be black-flagged?! A bit tough, methinks, Mr. MGI! -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- David Erb <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:jAIu5.51852$[email hidden]... > I also note that the AI seems to be > running a different physics model judgeing from their braking ability going > into pit lane! Oh, that's good information. Thanks, Karl. Like I did, you will enjoy Heat, I'm sure. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Karl Brankin <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8pflpi$13h$[email hidden]... > Yes, the issues regarding damage and yellow flag are to ba addressed. > see this article on High Gear by Ed Martin producer of NH > http://www.simracingnews.com/article.cfm?news_id=1743 > > Still waiting for NH to arrive in UK - ordered from US. > > Karl > >

Actually I didn't hear it, but I'm pretty sure Stan Allen from the "crew" will let us know shortly with a full report, it's not like he loves his Commodores or anything :-) I love AussieV8's, one of the best races I've ever seen was the start of the Bathurst in 93/94 or something, Brock and Perkins drove their Commodores on the wet slippery track like they were in a 10 lap rally cross event or something, *that's* what racing's about :-), too bad about the "chicane" on Conrod straight, the braking zone at the end there saw man fine overtaking maneuvers Personally I'm a big fan of Perkins, he ran the Commodore during the GroupA years when "everyone" else ran Cossie's, he ran the Aussie engine when the rest ran Nascar engines, still runs with 5 wheel studs instead of the center jobbie, it's like he refuses to to be like everyone else and goes his own way, has brought him some success as well I gather I managed to catch some of the action back in 92/93 when I had Screensport instead of Eurosport..... >The spotters voice is not realistic. It sounds like he's on stage or in a >studio, not on a 2-way hand-held FM radio! Yea what's up with this? Been flying flight sims for years and they are always weak in this area too. When they make the recordings all they have to do is do it though some radios. I think sounds are still under estimated on their emersiveness in many games. Jim D.
Thanks, Oliver. Yes, I checked out Ed Martin's comments and that is good news. I, like you, would appreciate a save function but if it's not there now then perhaps it would be too difficult or costly to add. The vertex damage appears to make each polygon deformable, if you know what this layman means! It can take several minutes of inactivity for the track to load....so maybe your patience expired before the loading had completed? -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Slick <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8pfp0q$1em$[email hidden]... > What does Vortex damage change since my game crushes when I turn it on!? > > Oliver > BEOROCKET Racing: www.beorocket.co.yu
What's a POS? In any event, I enjoy it. That's all that matters to me, Jerry. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- chainbreaker <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > You'll discover that NH is basically a POS in its current state if you > expect it to act anything like a simulation. Now that *would* be lovely. These V8s as modelled in NH would be ideal for the basis of an Aussie V8 sim. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Goy Larsen <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In my opinion, MGI ought to make an AussieV8 sim based on this one, I > can see myself racing up the mountain in a Castrol Commodore..... >
Most likely, my patience threshold is low these past few years... Did you turn the autoclutch off? Did I turn autoclutch off? No, because I use two pedals and have no intention of using either one of them, or a keyboard key, for the clutch! -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Slick <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8pm3e6$2m8$[email hidden]... > Most likely, my patience threshold is low these past few years... > Did you turn the autoclutch off?
