Like the subject says really.... I'm thinking of buying the above mentioned game, but have mixed feelings about some issues regarding reviews of the game.... 1. No sounds from cars other than your own?! 2. Problems with paddle shift levers on steering wheels - I have a Wingman Formula Force wheel which I think I might be able to program to avoid this? 3. Some complaints about not using current technology - ie. graphics and sound capabilities of current hardware. If you have any comments I'd be very interested to hear them, ideally real soon as I may go out and get the game today - but would like to know what other people who have bought th game think themselves?

Pretty poor, IMHO. > If you have any comments I'd be very interested to hear them, ideally > real soon as I may go out and get the game today - but would like to > know what other people who have bought th game think themselves? You have managed to point out the 3 major problems with this game. If you can live with them(until a patch appears), then you might just love it. I can't, unfortunately. Great potential, though.

IMO, the overal feel of the game is great. It has most features I really want in a game, although some are missing (mainly safetycar-situations and stop-and-go's). Physics are good, but not as good as GPL. IMO, GP3 comes closer to what I think real F1 is like than F12000. IMO, the looks are better than F12000 (I am not talking about resolutions, pixelation, anti-aliassing, but more about that GP3 just looks better, friendlier). And the menu-system of GP3 is far superiour to that of F12000. Bot faster and simpler. My conclusion: Best modern F1-sim on the market today and one of the best racing sims overall. grtngs, hgrm

FWIW, I have an LWFF and have not experienced any problems at all in using the paddle shifters with GP3. Regarding points 1 and 3, Point 1 is correct. Personally, I feel that Point 3 may technically be true, but I feel that it's not that big a deal. -- Just my opinion. . [email hidden] wrote:

Save your money, go out and find GP2 somewhere in a super bargain bin for $5. You'll be getting the same thing as GP3 just without the weather effects. The weather effects are nice but not worth the extra $40. Vintook <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Paddle shifters on LWFF work fine with GP3 because they are in the first four buttons. I have to set combined axis for the pedals though. Some of the graphics are excellent, some are quite poor. Overall I think it's well worth owning, just don't expect it to be as deep and compelling as GPL. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

The weather effects are nice but not worth the extra $40. You really should buy yourself a pair of thick glasses, or reinstall GP2 and realize the diffs between GP2 and 3. -- l8er ronny Your mouse has moved. On Sun, 10 Sep 2000 23:56:20 GMT, "Simon Brown" Thanks for all the helpful comments everyone. I have since been out and got GP3 and am generally impressed. As a few have pointed out there have been no problems with regards to the paddle shifts on my FF wheel - great. The lack of opponent engine sound is a little poor IMO, TBQH, I would have thought using surround sound on a game like GP3 would have been a great benefit when you know there are cars behind you - a very big opportunity missed IMO. A great shame on that count. Still, the actual driving is still a great chellenge and I really have the feeling I need to learn how to set the car up - I've found the basic set-up to be pretty poor - unless I'm a lot worse than I thought (probably!) I've got to say also that I found it quite a weird experience as I noticed many traces of the original GP my Geoff Crammond way back from my Amiga using days. As great as the game is I still feel there is a lot that could be done to improve the game namely these would be using more of the available technology out there. I could be talking out my rear of course, but it certainly seems as though it's an old game that's been updated rather than a game making the most of current systems. Sound - Adequate, realistic engine sound but otherwise functional rather than an element that could otherwise add very much to the gameplay - suround sound with opponent engine sound would have been great. Graphics - Again, nothing special. Not bad and the weather effects around different parts of the track do add to the realism. Still, again I think a missed opportunity at using current graphic card capabilities. Menus - No great problems here relatively easy to find you way round for such an in depth game. Driving - Very realistic IMO, if a little hard for us non racing sim veterans. This can do one of two things IMO, either draw you into the game more and get the car set-up sorted or you'll get frustrated and put it on the shelf. AI - Only done a couple of races at Monza, but the computer controlled cars are certainly more of a challenge that other racing games I played. Just wish they had engine sound so you can tell where they are behind you and get an idea of how close as well. I should point out that I've not played any of the other GP sims available for the PC, the only other racing games I have are Colin McRae Rally and SCGT.

I'm not impressed with GP3. There are just too many things about it that keep it from being really good. It's to bad really. Because it could have been the best F1 sim available. 1. yes there are no sounds from other cars 2. I have not had problems getting it to see my LWFF wheel, but the whole calibration thing is something out of the 80's. 3. The graphics are good, in a simplistic kinda way. The sounds are ok. That being said, it's the not game to show off your new computer. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I think that's pretty much what most people think. Pretty good, but could and should have been significantly better in quite a few areas. Particularly graphics and sound. You should get hold of Grand Prix Legends to see how good motor-sports sims can be. It's available pretty cheap these days and still compares favourably with everything else, not only in realism and physics, but also sound, graphics, multiplayer, depth etc. I highly recommend it, and it's not as difficult as you may have read. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Sun, 10 Sep 2000 23:56:20 GMT, "Simon Brown" > > Thanks for all the helpful comments everyone. I do know the difference, and it's not worth the $40. Vintook "Ronald Stoehr" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Vintook wrote: > > > > Save your money, go out and find GP2 somewhere in a super bargain binfor
