I've occasionally experienced the same thing with a VooDoo5500. Sometimes
changing it to video mode 5 in the cfg file would work, sometimes not. It
also gives my Polygon count different values sometimes, anywhere from 4900
to 2500, though it doesn't seem to effect frame rates. I generally play at
800x600 with 4xFSAA, but it's still reassuring to see the 1280 choice there.
Maybe it has something to do with the way or length of time that the game
reads the video card before offering resolutions.

Your polygon counts should vary depending upon whether you are is "fast"
mode, FSAA2 or FSAA4.
