What pisses me off are:
1) People who think they can gain 8 positions going into the first
turn at Monza. [you don't win the race on the first lap!]
2) People who start servers only to stop them at the end of practice
(hey if I wanted to practice, i wouldn't be online... I WANT TO RACE!)
3) Lag :( Can't they make a faster internet? I mean ADSL isn't fast
enough. Cable is too volatile. I need a T3 line right into my house!
And I doubt that would be good enough! :)
4) People who are good at the Ring :P Just kidding... i admire those
peoples ability.

Pros:
1. I get to race real thinking humans! Well sometimes.
2. Nice people (like myself) setup servers for VROC in lots of places
and are running many different tracks, classes, and what not.
3. Doo Doo happens just like it does when the real racers go out and
race.
4. It helps me with my road rage. Who me?
5. Most racers are kind courteous and forgiving.
6. I get to race real thinking humans!
Cons:
1. I get to race humans!
2. Some people are just plain rude and imature, hmm like in real life.
3. Lag, but you learn to live with it, or you don't race.
4. First turn mayhem.
5. People who quit, usually after #4 happens.

Yep. Some people will never learn the simple fac that people are on the grid
ahead of them because they are faster drivers on the day.

Sometimes these are marked in the comments. There are several leagues who
practice like this. In the GPVL last year, we used to put up an hour of
practive on the night before a race, stating in the notes that it was a GPVL
F3 practice session. On occasions when we had low turnouts these sessions
were not passworded. We regularly got people joining and asking what thei
"F3 shit" was. They simply had not bothered to see what they were joining.

Trouble is, you own connection is only as good as your line to the worst
hop. If a router has gone bad somewhere, you are screwed. Unless you are
hosting, a 33k modem is plenty fast enough in most cases.

Not necessarily. For instance, I don't practice with a light fuel load
and a special qual setup. I use my race setup, so I will naturally be
slower in practice than people using lighter fuel loads. Of course, this
doesn't excuse anyone from pulling bone-headed lap 1/bturn 1 moves.
This has nothing to do with VROC. Why is it in your list?
My pet peeve is that people quit a race when they think they have no
chance of finishing well. Here's a perfect example.
Last night I was in a race at Zandvoort, and I qualified on the pole (it
was a really slow field with a lot of people joining late in practice).
I spun my Eagle out about 1/3 through the first lap (my own solitary
fault), and fell to last place (9th) waiting for cars to go by before
returning to the racing surface. I ended up winning that race because
everyone else was spinning out and I eventually passed everyone again. I
ran the last seven laps by myself because everyone else quit. My best
lap was only 1:28.15 (3 seconds or more off the fastest lap I've seen
there), so you can see I'm not the fastest there.
This kind of crap happens in EVERY non-league race I've ever run in GPL.
I don't mind the lap 1/turn 1 stuff, but I wish everyone would stay in
the damn race.

braking point, and these people spin out
Remember: a short race at Monza is 11 laps... plenty of time for the
guys in front of you to make a mistake.
My setups are geared so that if my backend slips out I can easily
catch it. This is perfect for racing setups :)

It is a dilemma most of us have faced in VROC. Spinning off and possibly
being alone on the track for the rest of the race or catching others who
have also gone off or are slower than you and having a great race.
Somehow pessimism gets the better of many and although they go off assume no
one else will. Playing catch up can be great fun, and many have tales of
winning or having a close finish after an early incident that put them dead
last.
Having said that for those that pay for the phone connection when it becomes
clear that the chances of seeing another car are remote the temptation to
find another race is understandable, but it is definitely worth sticking
with it for a few laps at least.

I "retired" from my first online race after 6 laps because I ripped my
left front wheel off. Only later watching the replay did I notice other
drivers doing Shift-R's. I did not know that was alllowed online or I
would have done it!
Now I do know it and now I race to the end. ;-)
BUT THE BIGGEST CON OF VROC...
..is that it is so cool it is eating up my time!
Lord, this is FUN!
