Had the same and found it due to Glide 2.54 driver. Had to use 2.53, which
works fine. If that's not the problem, it could be comp overheating.

I have the same problem, can you list your system to see if there are any
common components.

I'm having an incredibley bad time with screen freeze when I go online with
GPL. Is it VROC or GPL?
Hitting ESC to go to pits gives me a black screen and the hour glass with
engine sound running. I can do ALT CTRL DEL at this point and get dumped
back to VROC. Other times I get stuck in the menu trying access car setups,
at this point nothing works but a power off reboot <groan>.
This has become a problem with almost every attempt racing online :(
Anyone have experience with this?

Yes. I was having that problem. Do you have a Voodoo card and are
you using the Glide Wrapper patch? Also, do you have adequate cooling
for your video card?

If it only happens online, I wonder if your vid card (or sound card)
and modem are sharing a irq.

Hi Brett... I have a Voodoo3 card, Glide Wrapper? is that the rearview mirror
thing, I tried it & removed it. I've even gone so far as re-installing GPL from
scratch, cleaned registry as well :(
Cooling I dunno, not doing anything special with that, tower sits under desk.

I know that I *still* had the problem after reverting to the original
Glide Wrapper (it let's me reduce the mirror update frequency) and it
wasn't until I removed everything from the Glide.Ini file except for
"GPL Override=0' and "Mirror Frequency=10" that it became more stable.
I had to revert because the new one was stepping on my internet
connection somehow and I would drop my connection between my PC and
the DSL modem as soon as I drove about 100 yards out of the pits in
GPL. Shame, too, the new mirror setup had a huge impact on the FPS,
making things much smoother and faster.
>Cooling I dunno, not doing anything special with that, tower sits under desk.
I had to pull the cover off my tower case and point a 12 v. "muffin"
fan right at the card to insure greater stability. When my Voodoo2
was overheating I would get "artifacts" like a white triangle running
through the black portion of the screen from top to bottom behind the
actual graphic image or a flashing horizontal white line across the
bottom where the FPS counter would display. I was mildly overclocking
the card originally, but backed it down to stock for stabilities sake.
I believe that you can easily take an old 486-style heatsink/cooling
fan and clip it right to the main graphic engine chip on a Voodoo3.

Hello,
I am not sure if this will help but when I had mouse lockup problems
here is a fix I found.
Problem
Cursor stops responding w/no Voodoo 2 card.
Upon launching the software, the mouse cursor stops responding.
Solution
Disable serial port polling.
If the mouse cursor stops responding in the menu screens and there is NOT a
Voodoo 2 card with Glide 2.54 drivers on the system, check to see if there
is a
serial mouse/trackball or any other serial port devices.
If a serial device exists:
1. Click on Start, Find, Files or Folders.
2. In the Named: field, type APP.INI. Make sure the Look In: field says
the drive
letter of the drive where the game is installed (for example, C:).
Check the box
that says "Include Subfolders."
3. When the file is found, open the APP.INI (in the GPL directory) and look
for the
following line-
[ Communications ]
disableDirectConnect = 0
4. Change the 0 to a 1 and save the changes. If this section is not
present, add it.
Note that it must be added EXACTLY as above as it is case sensitive and
there
must be a space between the brackets in the heading. The only effect that
this
will have on the game (other than potentially fixing the problem) will be to
disable the ability to race multiplayer via Null Modem direct connect mode.
Hope this can help with your problems.
