Just picked up the Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP wheel at best buy and
have to say I think this one is going back.
Here is my problem. The clamps on this wheel are POOP. 2 archaic and tiny
plastic C claps placed at the very front of the wheel base, one on either
side. Each clamp has about 1/2 inch of plastic lip to hold onto your desk.
The wheel has absolutly nothing on the back end to keep it down so the
clamped down wheel never manages to tightly grip flat to your desk. It lifts
up in the back if you put weight down on the front of the wheel and
eventually it slips right off. I can clamp the wheel down super
tight..wobble it a few times and then I can take it right off my desktop
without ever touching the clamps.
Has anyone figured out a way to get this to stay attached to your desk? I
think if they had put some suction cups on the rear end to help it stick
down on your desk the tiny C clamps wouldn't be so bad.
I used a buddy's original big red rig and don't remember this issue but then
again I don't remember how it connected. I can say they have removed a lot
of rubber from the wheel and now the wheel itself is almost identical to the
MS FF but the rubber grip is red. The pedals are also more like the MS FF as
the base is now angled up in the back and the pedals come out of that area
instead of the flat wide base. The extra foot rest area has also been
removed and the base may be a tad heavier. Pedals themselves seem very
similar to the original.
I haven't tested it yet - as I don't want to even keep a wheel that doesn't
stay put when I just turning it let alone having FF on but it still feels
like they used the belt system like before instead of a heavy notchy motor.
I just checked out a review of the original Winman FF and the clamps are
totally different. Much much smaller and very square. They are basically an
"L" with a nut on the top that you turn to tighten them. They are shit and
this wheel is going back....looks like Ill have to wait for the Guillemot
wheels to get back in stock.
Has anyone tried the new Nascar Digital Pro? It looks a lot like the
Guillemot and is also made by Thrustmaster.

can.
Good call on the refurbished wheel, get one while you can. You can also
check out an ACT-LABS which I think will be coming out with a 3-pedal
upgrade. This may be the only company with a FF wheel supporting sim
drivers.

I have it too. I have to admit that I like it, except for
the clamps. I have gotten used to the pedals which seem
to be made for feet smaller than size 11 U.S. I never
had another FF wheel, so I can't comment on the FF,
but it suits me okay.
I have a 3/4" wide keyboard drawer to which I clamp the
wheel, so I have to use the clamp extenders that came
with the wheel. My problem is, after 10 minutes of racing,
the clamp screws work themselves loose and the wheel base
starts sliding around. Did they even test the wheel
for more than ten minutes? If the clamp screws were made
of wood or metal, they might stay tight, but plastic comes
loose, and will always do so.
Anyway, I have an idea of how to fix this problem.
The tops of the clamp screws are hollow, hexagonal
shaped, and have "teeth" inside. I think if you go
to Home Depot and get a thin piece of metal (but not
too thin) which is slightly less wide than the inside
of the hexagon, you could bend it into an extended U
shape. Then you could insert it upside down into
the clamp screw heads, catching on the teeth, and this
will keep them from unscrewing. Here's a picture
(use fixed font):

The steering wheel occupies the space between the
clamps where "Front view" is, and I didn't draw it.
If anyone tries this, let me know how it goes.

Before you buy.
That doesn't sound like a bad idea but I no longer have the wheel. I don't
think it would solve my problem either because my main issue was that it
didn't have enough room to get a good hold on a desk not that it didn't stay
tight but they are closely related.
Perhaps something to replace the clamps altogether and make them reach
futher under the desk would be a better idea. Something that would give it
grip more in the center of the unit rather than just the very front so its
not as unstable. I also thought simple suction cups on the bottom of the
base that would stick to the desk to keep the rear of the unit from wobbling
might help also but I didn't ever go shopping to see what was out there in
the way of suctioncups.
I don't think it is a bad wheel. The pedals look better than the original
but I did miss the all rubber grip. I also read a review that said the FF
was much better in this wheel than the old one.
