Hi Aaron, It's actually the other way around. Gamepads/joysticks would use Non-linear steering. Wheels use linear steering -- that's why we buy the wheels :-D To set linear steering, make sure no red appears in the "non-linear" bar. Jason. Aaron Markham wrote: > . I picked up Nascar Heat yesterday. I gave it the quick once around. I'm a little disappointed in comparison with N3. N3 seems quite realistic and responsive. NH seems sluggish. (This MAY be my video card). Also: The cars don't get damage? It seems like an arcade game. Is there a setting to change this? How do you pause the game? Save the game? Anyway: so far, no where near as bad as NASCAR Revolution, but not quite up to N3 yet. I've only played with this for a few hours .... so pointers to get me on track would be quite welcome.

Mustang, By "sluggish", I am assuming you are refering to frame rates. What are your system specs? I have an AMD K6-2 450mhz and a TNT2 card and get acceptable frame rates - but not with a full field of competitors. I generally race a field of about 24 and that works fine (running at 1024X768). Unless you have a very hot system, I wouldn't recommend trying to race with a full field. I really wish Hasbro would release a patch allowing you to control the number of "viewable" cars, but I have not heard any mention of this as a possibility... The damage model is quite poor in the current release of NH. This should be corrected in the 1st patch, which is due for release within the next week or so. You can pause the game with the "P" key. No way to save the game, though. A "save game" feature will not be implemented in the patch. Are you running in "Hardcore" mode? You will need to edit the ini file to enable "Hardcore" as an option. This has been documented here in previous messages. Let me know if you need help. Running in hardcore mode increases the realism of the driving physics model, and once the patch is released, should also allow for much more realistic damage modeling and yellow flag occurances. - Pat In article <[email hidden]>, Mustang <[email hidden]> wrote:

Hey Mustang I haven't noticed sluggishness. What do you have on for options? Also have you enabled hardcare mode? This is done in the options.cfg. That will help to some degree. Pausing the game can be done 2 ways. The first is the esc key. The second is just by hitting "P". Damage is a problem that is being corrected in the patch which should be out later this week. Saved game is not a feature in the game. You can run a championship season and it will save you results. But saving in the middle of a race is not something that you can do. Another thing that may help you is to set the amout of cars you race to 16 or so. A full field is a little tough because of the way the game calculates data. All of the cars are independent. So the damage they have, where they are, the reaction of them, physics, and the graphics alone put a heavy strain on both the CPU and Video card. I think that is another issue being addressed in the patch but I'm not sure. I've had a blast with the game so far, uninstalled N3 just can't seem to drive that anymore. The patch, from what I'm understanding is going to really make the game a winner. We'll see in a couple of days. Hope you enjoy. -DElvr http://www.3stoutsracing.com "Mustang" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Do you mean "sluggish" like in framerates or like in how the car reacts when steering. If it's about the steering then that's because NHeat actually simulates the weight transfer of a 3400lb stock car where N3 doesn't simulate that at all which gives you very responsive steering. Also, if you use a wheel go into "controls" then "advanced" and turn off linear steering. That is only for gamepads, wheels use non-linear steering. Mustang, N3 is like playing that old game called Pong compared to NH. The sense of speed and movement in Heat is awsome and the opposite of sluggish. Maybe your system needs an overhaul. Mustang <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hmm .... I'm running a P-II 450 Mhz (ASUS Motherboard) with 256 MB of RAM. Does the game require more than that? The weak part (admittidly) is the video card ... ATI Rage Pro chipset. ("Rage" only describes my feelings toward ATI at the moment!) I think I have to do some tuning to get the wheel to respond better. Right now I can't hold the corners without ending up up in the wall.
