Check out Michael Keyser's site. He's got many, many images from that era,
some on the site and over 3000 on cd-rom.

Paul Frere's book, "The Racing Porsches - A Technical Triumph" has quite a
few photos of the 917 through it's development, albeit in black and white,
and a great deal of technical info on the cars.
If you can find the book, "Porsche Museum" (look on ebay), there are some
beautiful images of 917s from the 69/70 16 cylinder Spyder to the 917/30K of
Penske Racing. None of the Gulf cars though.
Last month I photographed one of the Gulf 917s at the Monterey Historics,
