I want to get a little more performance out of my computer without spending too much. I currently have a PII 440 with a ASUS 440BX MB. I can only upgrade to a PIII 600 due to board limitations. Should I do that or buy a Celeron and overclock it? I really have no idea how to do that, but I am willing to do the research. And if I were to get a Celeron, does anyone know what the fastest one is that is supported by my board? Thanks for the help. Sondog

Check your mb mfg's website for any bios updates for your board, that will allow you to put faster chips in. -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends ICQ# 74084566 "Sondog" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:jFwz5.13119$[email hidden]... > I want to get a little more performance out of my computer without spending > too much. You should be able to get an adapter to make a Flip-Chip Coppermine work in your Slot 1 board, so it might be possible to go over 600 Mhz, although you would want to contact your MB manufacturer first and check this. Check this newsgroup: alt.comp.hardware.overclocking Lots of good info and folks willing to answer your questions. I just upgraded to a celeron 566, overclocked to 850 on an ABIT BH6. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with your MB. But, if I could figure out how to do it, I'm sure that you can too. It's not rocket science........ after you get a little guidance, that is. Which ASUS MoBo do you have ? If it's the P2B, I'm not quite sure how far it will go, but I had a quick look on the ASUS site, and from BIOS 1011 it supports the "Coppermine" CPU's, and 1012 looks like it adds support for more microcodes The P3B with the latest BIOS has no problems running "Coppermine" CPU's, even the EB's (133FSB) should run, but you may experience problems with the AGP bus running too fast, some vid cards may not like that Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "Team Mirage" http://www.teammirage.com/ "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ * Spam is for losers who can't get business any other way * "Spamkiller" http://www.spamkiller.com

Hi BRH, I also hae an ABIT BH6 which is currently running my trusty Celey 300A at 450. A friend of mine has recently upgraded to the 533@800 on the same board, and I am eager to uprage myself. I'm just innterested in how your 850 is running. What voltages are you using, how stable is it, do you have any fancy cooling? I would rather go for the 566 instead of the 533, but is the extra 50 MHz really that big an improvement, and is the 850 combination less lickely to work?
