Hey guys , I'm thinking of getting shut of my v3 2000 ( happily ticking away
at 175mhz ) in favour of an Nvidia geforce 2 GTS 32MB. I only play GPL
really , will I be sorry ? or should I go for it ?
Cheers , John

I've got a 32Mb GeForce DDR and am certainly not sorry. GPL runs very nicely
at 1920x1200 on a PIII @765 but normally I play at 1280x1024 which is plenty
high enough. FSAA now works pretty well indeed with the 6.27 drivers on most
games which can't run in really high res.
The Geforce 2 GTS is even faster than my card so you'll be a happy man
indeed.

Offline I can use the FSAA with GPL no problems, but when I join a race the
frame rate drops below 20. Starting via Winvroc with FSAA on will not even
work. What is your experience online?
Using Geforce2 GTS DDR 32MB, 6.26 Nvidia ref. drivers, Athlon 800.

Well, you won't get a big speed up in GPL. I have a GeForce 2 and it runs
GPL slower than my previous card which was a V3 3000 AGP. Also I had a V5
briefly and it ran slightly slower (about 0.5fps) than the V3 which was a
little strange.
But, and it's a big but, I still get 36fps >95% of the time. The only time
I get lower than 36fps is at the start of races. Training = 36 fps all the
time, Vroc = 36 fps all the time, and the same applies in races after the
first 10-15 seconds.
GPL on both the GF2 and V5 is considerably more colourful than on my V3, but
there's a few visual artifacts on the GF2 in D3D.
It's hard to know what to recommend, I'm totally happy with my GF2 and I
reckon it's superior to the V5 for the majority of games, but if you
*really* *only* play GPL, then the V5 will give you higher frame rates with
and without FSAA in GPL.

If you only play GPL then don't get the Gf2 GTS, get the V5 5500 instead.
Simply because you won't get a frame rate any higher than 36fps (cos GPL is
capped as you well know), and the Full Screen Anti Aliasing is much better
on the V5 than the GF2. Also, you can get the V5 for just that little bit
cheaper. None of the other bell and whistles of either card will be relevant
in GPL, so the only thing either card has over the other (with respect to
GPL) is the V5's FSAA.
Good luck making the choice
