How do I disable split axis with the Microsoft FF Wheel in Windows 2000? I
have been looking for the mythical 4.0 software, but have had no luck. Is
there a registry hack or something? All games work fine except for Midtown
Madness 2, which applies the brake when I let off the gas, I guess it
doesn't support split axis.

Your not looking hard enough. It is in the software.
You can enable/disable it for each profile you create.
I can't be more specific as I'm at work at the moment.

neither are you, apparently.

Would that be the software he said he can't even find?

You can't create profiles in software you don't have.

Maybe I can help a little.
The 4.0 sidewinder software is for USB devices only and is (I believe)
packaged with USB devices, only. It's also impossible to find on the
net. The MS sidewinder site doesn't even make reference to it. The
highest version for gameport devices is 3.02. This software will not
install on Win2K, so you cannot use it to modify the axes or anything
else about the wheel's operation.
My own MSFF (gameport) indeed appeared in the game controllers applet
in Win2K and appeared to function properly, but when calibrating, the
brake axis was reversed. There is no apparent way to remedy this,
either. (Believe me, I looked) I read of different people having
different experiences with this wheel, as well. Some folks don't get
the reversed axis on the brake, some do.
It is partly because of MS trying to direct people away from Win2K as
a gaming OS that they refuse to care about the problem. The
Sidewinder software v3.02 installs and works perfectly (for me) in
WinME and that is what they would likely suggest you do if you wish to
play games.
