Just wondering what some of the better Formula One games are for the PC... I like sims, the kid
likes arcade, and I'd like something contemporary.
thanks!

Gp3 can be both, it depends how you set it up.

Before you buy.
hmmm... don't i know you from somewhere? :)
anyway, ms. g, i actually like EA's F1 2000 for a good mix (plus it has
indy). you should also give gp3 a try. they both have demos, i think.
let us know what you've got in terms of PC power, too... that would help
with a recommendation.
of course, a true gearhead like you owes it to herself to at least try the
GPL demo! you won't be sorry...

Get F1 2000 for a "real sim" & give your kid a few quarters to go to a "real
arcade".

F1WGP also has a low, LOW $19 pricetag these days, as does F1 2000 (at
some stores, anyway). F1 2000 is a hardware hog, though, so you might
try F1WGP first just to get your feet wet, and they try "stepping up"
to F1 2000.
F1 2000 is the only sim on the market to feature the full 2000 F1
season, though, which means it's the only sim that will let you race on
the new Indy track.

Howdy bud!
Thanks to an exploding motherboard, my PC got upgraded last week to a 500 mhz. I've got a Voodoo3
card, so do ya think F1 2000 will run okay on my machine? I've gotta start training my kid for open
wheel, get him off those @#*#& dirt bikes before he breaks another bone...

my celeron 566 o/c to 860 with a GeForce2. my friend runs it alright on a
celeron 400, though. i'd say that you should be fine with your setup, even
though you might have to drop some details down. any chance of overclocking
that 500 of yours? it really is in the gearhead spirit- you know, like
squeezing every last bit of horsepower out of an engine :)
an exploding motherboard- that i'd like to see.... heh.
you do have a wheel and pedals, right?
there are some cool addons for F1 2000, too- someone has a Laguna Seca track
up for it somewhere (i can look for it if you want; i forget where it
is...sorry)
you're right about getting your kid off of the bikes! as much fun as it is
(i used to do a little motocross when i was his age), it really is pretty
rough. i remember the older guys saying they'd never drive alone to a race,
since there was no guarantee they'd be able to drive themselves home....
hearing that got me into karts. you guys should look into that.
of course, if you can't get him off the bikes i'm doing an emergency
medicine elective next month, so i can give you some pointers on setting
broken bones....you know; do-it-yourself to avoid the dr. bills....

(still wishing he'd made the USGP)
