Man, look at the grandstands in the first shot! Talk about public with
"Spam" like properties. Guess they don't do the wave. I wish they would
have the same crowds as NH.

them...as if
they were taken from a curved monitor and placed flat ....or vice-versa...

I am not very much impressed with the graphics I must say... crowds look
like a box of happy colored M&M's and the cars look like they have had a bad
nose job or so, what's up with that? For a game that will be released 6
months from now you should look at the pics and say, WOW! those are some
stunning graphics but at this point I don't get that feeling.... Those
graphics might look pretty outdated 6 months from now if current day games
(read Nascar Heat and SBK 2000) already have far better graphics today...
Offcourse graphics isn't the most important thing but physics are.... But
the eye also wants something doesn't it? :) I have a freaking expensive
GeForce 2 GTS and it's about time those bloody designers start to take use
of all the capabilities of this card, I payed so much to get nice and fast
graphics and then Geoff Crammond comes along and insults my freaking fast
and expensive vidcard with his re-labelled Grand Prix 2 :)))

What you are seeing there Sjon, are the generic Papyrus noses that have
been used for 2 or 3 generations of the Nascar product.
Papyrus/Sierra/Havas found a way to save some licensing costs several years
ago... they don't license the manufacturers, and they let the private sector
paint the proper 'look' after the game has been released. So don't get
bogged down in the details of how the car looks, rather pay attention
features like the dynamic shadows that will impart more immersion. And try
to gauge from the photos the way the car is
handling. Look for weight transfer, different wheels skidding or locking up
and the ability of the car to move in all 6 directions of travel. (those
being, from the Henrie school of racing: forward, backwards, sideways and
whatever direction the nearest guardrail lies....) :>
Yes eye candy does improve sims, but the eye-candy I'm looking for is
during the driving, and frankly the crowds could all be digitized images of
Britney/Pamela/etc and I wouldn't care....I don't have much time to oggle
the crowds whilst racing.

Sjon that's exactly how I feel. I was really looking forward to Nascar 4
before Heat came out. I wasn't expecting much from Heat but it really has
surprised me. The graphics are so crisp, the cars look stunning. Nascar 4
pales in comparison. I just hope those shots are old :(
And as you say physics are the most important, but once again Heat has
deliverd :) The physics in Heat are nothing to be sneeze at, but I still
think N4 will be better in that area. Just look at it's younger brother,
the best physics in current sim and it's over 2 years old :)
Cheers

Probably not. I would bet it will be ready for the Christmas market.
Well, it will be
out by then ready or not. That seems to be the current trend amongst
some
publishers - to release a game
that is not quite ready just to get the Christmas sales. They figure
they can
always "fix" it later with a patch.
