Thinking about finally taking the plunge on a force-feedback wheel, and am
looking at the usual suspects. Feedback appreciated...
Act Labs
+ good reviews
+ Optional Dreamcast adaptor (thinking about getting a DC for F355)
- ??
But what about price? And where can I find it?
Logitech (old)
+ Can get one for ~$50 (justdeals.com)
+ nice grip, nice looking
+ favorable reviews
- pedals (but I can use my CH Pro's, right?)
Logitech (new)
+ inexpensive (but not as much so as the old)
+ better pedals?
+ ??
- cheaper grip
TIA,
Dave
I'd stay away from the new Logitech wheel -- very flimsy.
I have an old "LWFF". For $50, you can't go wrong with the LWFF. In fact,
I'd consider buying another at that price as a spare. I would think that for
MOST racing sims/games (not all), you'll be able to use other pedals with it
,whether their CH or ( TSW as I do, or) some other pedals. The reason is that
that the LWFF connects via serial port or USB, meaning you can then connect
the pedals of your choice thru the gameport. For this to work, your sim has
to be able recognize 2 separate controllers simultaneously though. Among
those that do are GPL, NFSPU, F1RS, MGPRS, GP3 (although not split axis yet),
SBK2000 and I'm sure there are a few others.
Another option to use "other" pedals with the LWFF would be to do your own
surgery on it and hard wire them to it. (I don't have the capacity nor the
inclination to try it though).
Hope this helps.

shifter patch/update for GPL, NFS it is really a must have
I would also like to mention the extraordianry quality of the wheel and of
the customer support...
I broke a piece in the wheel (my fault), I mailed the support asking them if
I could I open the wheel to get a look to see if I could fix it, they
replied the next day telling me "Open the wheel, in the meantime we send you
the broken part, free of charge"...I opened up the wheel, found a way to
temporarily fix my problem, 3 days later I got in the post the broken
plastic part for my wheel.
Who can beat that ?

An old Logi with ball bearings (maybe with CH-pedals too, haven't tried that)
Have to admit, support-wise Logitech sucks extremely and ACT rules.

Where can I get one of the old wheels for $50? I'd love to dump my MSFF
wheel and get an old Logitech.
