I have noticed that the curbing is very forgiving as well... at some tracks. Others, (Brazil and more Im sure) are not so forgiving and will spin you even with two tires on some of the curbing. I am currently running A1-Ring and I can abuse just about every curb on the track (qualifyied at 1:12:0 for the pole on hard tires). > >Also, I seem to get inconsistent top end speed. Anyone noticed this?Havent noticed this myself. I would imagine it is going to have more to do with your exit speed of the last turn before the straight then the game engine. > >Inconsistent times are also a problem. F1 cars rely a ton on aero-downforce more then anything. Aero-downforce meaning... air over the wings to hold the car down to the track. When you get near another car, that air is disrupted and traction is reduced... hence slower speeds thru the turn and slower lap times. While racing at ... I cant remember what track now.... I had done all my setup work and testing while solo on the track. I was blistering fast and easily pulled away with the lead (Mika style) but once I got into traffic my lap times suffered so badly that second place was catching me fast. It wasnt that I couldnt pass the lapped cars, it was that I couldnt get within 100 yards of them. Every time I did, the tail end of the car would lose air and want to whip around in certain corners. I was VERY amazed that GP3 models the reduced traction when behind someone. >Also, tires lost grip suddenly after 20 laps. Esp when u are leading. (i >have set breakdown off). What tires are you using? Soft or hard? Hards will last about 20 laps (depending on track and driving style) before they start dropping off dramatically. Softs dont last much more then 10-12 laps before you are hurting. You can effect tire wear by not spinning the rears when exiting corners. This seems to be the worst thing you can do when it comes to tire wear in GP3. I can slid the car all over the place, but spinning the rears is a killer. Seems the fronts last longer then my rears in every race so I dont think too much about the front wear.

About the curbs...watch some F1 qualifying...they sometimes put their inside tires on the grass to get that extra speed. well, the subject say it all. If I set up my car with soft suspension, I can position 1/2 of my car on the ripple strips (ie, cut the corner , only2 wheels on the curb and the rest on the grass -> from the looks of in car shot and replys) without getting a penalty (or lose grip). I mean the general rule of 2 wheel on the track just got a bit extreme in GP3. I can do about 1:36.9xx in suzuka by doing this. Its not great time but I only practiced 20 laps or so on it. Also, I seem to get inconsistent top end speed. Sometimes it wont let me accelerate past 5th gear on a straight of wont accelerate past 2 lights in 6th while a lap ago i can reach the rev limit of 6th (and my plank is not even worn). Anyone noticed this? Inconsistent times are also a problem. Whenever I am followed or following another car then my times would drop 1 or 2 seconds. If I am in the clear then I drive faster. I dont really experienced slow downs (Occupancy higher than 100%) when there are alot of cars on the road but my lap times do get slower. Also, tires lost grip suddenly after 20 laps. Esp when u are leading. (i have set breakdown off). anyway .. just need to confirm with ya fellas to see if i was dreaming or not. Ray

F1 cars are extremely inefficient at cutting through the air, with all that surface area to give downforce. That makes them _very_ susceptible to wind speed, especially on high downforce circuits. Anybody know if Geoff included wind speed in his weather simulation? Chris

You can do it in one places, but in others even putting 2 wheels on the curb is tricky. It looks it rather problem with modelling the tracks than with the game engine itself. > Also, I seem to get inconsistent top end speed. Anyone noticed this? No, I only have this effect if I messed up previous corner. > Inconsistent times are also a problem. When you're ahead of another car you shouldn't go slower unless you have to defend the line and if the following car don't make you nervious :) > > Also, tires lost grip suddenly after 20 laps. Esp when u are leading. (i > have set breakdown off).I've found out that the best solution if to drive very smoothly and don't go for those extra 0.1 per lap by pushing hard. You will gain more time by saving your tires longer. Though, of course, the grip get worse and one has to drive a bit more careful. Alex.
