Wish I could. I've never been able to connect to that site since it
moved there, it immediately comes up with 'a connection with server
could not be established', and if I try pinging the address it gives
'unkown host'. I've only once been able to connect to www.ringlord.com
which I believe is the host for gplrank. It generally gives 'could not
connect to server' error and when I did get to that page the link to
gplrank didn't work. I'm not sure if my ISP is to blame. I'm going to
try connecting via a different one to see what happens.

Nope, just tried through another ISP with same results. I tried the
hosts file fix mentioned here also, but that didn't work either. Tried
using both IE and Netscape. I normally connect through Freeserve in the
UK. Anyone else using this ISP who has/hasn't been able to connect?

I get fishy errors when connecting to http://gplrank.ringlord.com
too... I have my own Linux DNS server/cache, and I have to restart it
almost every time I try to connect(maybe something with flushing the
cache?). My guess is that the problem is at the ringlord end.

This got put up today apparently:
GPLRank FAQ:
Sometimes I get "site not found" when trying to access gplrank. What's
up?
Chris Noto writes:
"Uwe, I found a tip on your http://ringlord.com/links.html page,
that mentioned a "/etc/hosts file or its windows equivalent". I
tracked the the Windows
equivalent down. It is a file named "hosts" (no extension name)
in the \windows directory. There is a sample named "hosts.sam". I
added the line
"216.200.107.162 gplrank.ringlord.com" to "hosts", and get
through fine now to GPLrank. Thought you might want to add that info
to your page...
Chris."

Like I said, I've tried this fix and it made no difference.

Within Linux, you can enter the ip address / name pair in /etc/hosts
like this:
216.200.107.162 gplrank.schuerkamp.de gplrank.ringlord.com
and it should take precendence over ringlords broken DNS entries.

Uwe
