While cleaning out my NG reader (and shortly after installing the SBK 2001 demo) I came across the following interesting quotes regarding AMA Superbike Racing made more than a year ago while deciding which folders to delete: Mark S. Miller: > You get upgrades forever for free. Forever, as in waiting forever for an upgrade? Charles Joyner: > We will have the more difficult models available throughout > the end of the year. [...] > We are going to stay with it and keep developing it. Umm, OK. Fix that dreaded online lock-up problem yet? Bob McCarthy: > AMA Superbike will continue be developed well "forever". [...] > This is a very ambitious project with a long life. [...] > Frankly, I would hit the upgrade button every time you > play No upgrade available for the last six months and legitimate bug reports continue to go completely unanswered on the Motorsims forum. Meanwhile EA Sports releases a SBK 2000 demo in early March followed this September by a SBK 2001 demo. Ouch. - George

This reminds me of "download new cars via the internet" on the box for Sports Car GT, and we got nothing for six months until finally we got three cars, which weren't even new carshapes, just paintjobs. Thankfully people in the sim-racing community hacked the car files and produced their own. "George M. Eventually, the developpers just understood that they had to go over the title and concentrate on their next title. I mean AMA SBK had so much potential but even if it was upgraded for free for the next 5years, it would be a miss. It's now free to buy, it's free to race, so they throw the towel a long time ago. Just a first strike to my eyes, let's see if their next title is a single-hit. The game engine is still one of the best on the market, and darn those tracks are perfect.. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

I think Motorsims biggest problem was they "thought" they could transfer the Warbirds busness model over to racing. The difficulty they didn't understand was the passage of time. When Warbirds and Air Warrior were released they were the ONLY programs that allowed more than one or two users to play together... As such, many flight simmers paid HUGE ammounts of cash to enjoy this unique enviroment and essentially beta test the programs for years. But Papy beat them to the punch...with first Hawaii and then Nascar 3 we have gain a fairly massive racing enviroment. Since N3 is free and so is GPL and Nascar Heat, it will be difficult to recoup the development costs from a paying online community, especially one that most likely would resent a lengthly beta period hidden under the guise of continuing game development. BUT! Having said that....I will agree with Y... Nobody has modeled tracks as well as the first Motorsims effort. I hope they survive to build on their first effort and bring out a quality title.
