I tried that fix...the "static.wav" file and it didn't work for me either,
seems to be just a silent wav file. I'm using a Quadzilla. I saw on a site
that there are these exact problems if you have a m/b with a via chipset.
I've got an award m/b with the via apollo pro chipset.
Also, there can be problems if you have an AGP video card and a PCI
soundcard, which I also have....voodoo3 2000 agp.
How do these things apply to you guys ?
The site I found it at is mainly for voodoo users, but has other info which
is still relevant even if you have a different video card......the link is:
http://www.voodoo.dk/voodoousers/
Once there, click on "Troubleshooting info" on the left hand side, the go to
"soundcard issues".
I've pasted some info below anyway:
"Problems with VIA motherboard chipsets
There are known problems with VIA motherboard chipsets used with an AGP
video card and a PCI sound card, including crackling audio and possible
lockups of the machine. These problems do not occur if both the video and
the sound card are PCI-based."
