Great sim, but I have tried three times now to run a championship season.
All three times I had to give up because of aggravating bugs/nuances of the
sim. Race lengths were 50%.
First season, first race at Daytona. After leading for most of the race
(expert and hardcore on) I pit on lap 50. When I get to the entrance of pit
road the sim freezes. Seconds later I hear my car crashing, and I realize
the car is moving but the screen is not. Suddenly the graphics catch up to
my car and I find myself half way down pit road bouncing off of the walls.
I pull into my pit, get repaired, and I come out last. I work hard to catch
up. Luckily the caution comes out on lap 65. After an hour+ of driving the
AI cars begin to ram the shit out of me and knock me off the track. Aero is
destroyed. I end up finishing 29th.
First season 2nd race. When I started the race I knew that I did not have
time to run the entire race, and so I went ahead and started it anyway so I
could practice racing knowing that I could only run for about 15 minutes. I
figured I would come back tomorrow and rerun the entire thing. Surprise!
After I cancelled out of the race I was not allowed to go back and restart.
I was angry because I had spent much time setting up the car for this track,
and I really wanted to run this race. Two races into the season I had less
than 50 points. I decided to cancel the season and start over again so that
I could get a Daytona finish that was correct, and so I could try my setup
at NC. Two hours of racing wasted.
Second season, First race at Daytona. I had painted car number 141 to my
liking. The number on the car was 01, but the number in the stats showed up
as 141. So I edited the new drivers.txt file and changed the number 141 to
01. I started the race at Daytona. When the time came to pit I could not
find my pit box. I drove up and down pit lane. My custom painted 01 team
was not there. I went to external view and found that I was actually
driving Steve Park's #1 car, even though my custom car was shown correctly
as my car when I created the season. Apparently the .txt file saw my 01,
and it put me in Steve Parks car. By this time I was two laps down. Had to
quit the race and the season. Another hour of racing wasted.
Third season. Again at Daytona the caution comes out on lap 65. (Notice a
pattern here?) Again the AI cars destroyed my car. When the green flag
came out the acceleration of the AI cars was incredible. The left me in the
dust. I was running last 3 seconds behind the car in front of me. The
ruined aero from the ramming prevented me from catching up. After leading
for the first 65 laps I finished last. Again I had to delete the season in
frustration.
This seems to be a great game, but the hosed up AI during cautions, and the
inability to save a game or restart a race have made this a very aggravating
sim. Also, I've noticed that the AI cars do not seem to break down, and the
relative lack of cautions is unrealistic. So far the cautions seem to be
scripted as twice at Daytona the yellow came out on lap 65.
I am now thoroughly pissed as I have wasted about five hours of racing
during a championship season, and I have nothing to show for it. I'm
thinking about starting a fourth attempt at a season, but I'm getting tired
of running endless laps around Daytona and then throwing them away.
Hmm just wait for the final patch. Hasbro says a lot of these issues
will be resolved with the patch. Although, the savegame feature will
not be included, some of these other things may be fixed. Don't give
up on Heat just yet, as it is a great game. I managed to complete a
season and won 1st place by 1 point. Was really fun!
How many DNF's did the CPU have in your season?

None.... But I think Hasbro is going to patch that problem.

> Hey Hammer! You wasted five hours racing??? To me you had 5 hours of
fun. Now some of those problems are big impediments to the sucess of NH.
But...you could have easily run a single race at NH to test out your setup
vs the ai...no need to start a season race you knew you couldn't finish....
Same thing with your edited car...shoulda tested it with a single race
before
starting up a season...good learning experience...
Your other problems, especially the ai bashing you on pitlane...HOPEFULLY
they will address that with a 2nd patch.(you do have the first patch right?)
I have found if I stay offline during the yellows, I can REDUCE (not
eliminate) the pounding I take.
I suggest you run individual races at each track before starting another
season. find out the bugs BEFORE you get burned. Check out the forums at
the NH site..perhaps they have some more insight on the status of the AI
fixes.
