Is there anyway to open the one part of the track where the old oval part used to be? I see it everytime I pass by it after the pit road but wondered if there's a way to drive on it. After seeing the movie "Grand Prix" I wondered why Sierra didn't include that part of the track. BD

The movie used the banking for dramatic effect -- how else could you get Yves Montand up a tree for the bathos of the final crash scene? -- but in the real 1967 season, the short course bypassing the Curva della Velocit was used, as it had been from 1962 onwards, and still is to the present day. BTW, there is a petition going round the Net to save the banking at Monza Royal Park, which the organizers have talked about pulling down. From what I understand, it is not possible to open up the banking to run on because that part of the circuit would cross over the existing track. Apparently this would cause problems with cars occupying the same space. So I've been told anyway... BD, Papyrus considered it, but it didn't make the final cut for two reasons. 1. Until Nate Hine's GRE, there would have been no way to tune your suspension to handle the G-loads (you'd need 400 lb. springs, etc.). 2. There would be no way to score the race the way they did in "Grand Prix" (which was set in '66; the banking actually hadn't been used since 1960), where the cars alternated a lap of the road circuit followed by a lap of the banking (and even if they had, it would have been too easy to cheat by droning around the banking, like the "Race of Two Worlds" in the late '50s). Besides, the banking wasn't used in '67, the the guys at Papyrus are purists. --Steve Smith Big Daddy <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:MYLC5.16449$[email hidden]... > Is there anyway to open the one part of the track where the old oval part > used to be? Maybe, I'm pretty sure it is the same guy that wrote the GPL guide, cuz we are both on Rochester Road Runner, and Rochester is like 8 minutes from where he lives (wyoming county, or something like that, not the greatest geographical person here :) -Stuart Becktell "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:DnRC5.145492$[email hidden]...
