Re: LONG-Wait-for GP3 patch

Waiting for GP3 patch with split-axis pedal support

Users frustrated by Grand Prix 3's lack of split-axis pedal support asked whether the promised patch would ever arrive. Some had workarounds using controller profiles, while others refused to reconfigure for one game. A report quoted Hasbro producer Nick Court saying patch details, including three-axis support, would be revealed soon.

If GP3 supported split axis I would go buy it. As long as it doesn't I won't. I can't drive it without split axis as my Windows 2000 Immersion drivers do not support combined. So the answer to your question (at least in my case) is well, no. At least the way your question is worded. If what you meant to say was "Do you think the addition of split axis will move more units..." the answer would be yes. --David Cook "Chris Bloom" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8rik1e$6ft$[email hidden]...

I guess my initial reply was slightly cynical. There may be a few people who won't buy GP3 because it doesn't support split axis, but I'm sure it's shifting units at a fair pace and there is no real pressure for GC to get a patch out. I don't think so. Patching was common back in 91-92 when Falcon3 was released. They promise a patch on their site - soon. Clearly Hasbro's 'soon' is not the same as the rest of mankind. I for one will not be buying any further Hasbro games. This whole GP3 thing has been very badly marketed and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I do not NEED an F1 game: I buy because I fancy the idea. But there are other F1 games. Games like Unreal Tournament put Hasbro to shame. Epic constantly update the game and have a loyal following because of it. An excellent game with excellent support. They are what I want and expect. I've seen the posts about how to get GP3 to work with 3 axes, but then when I drive GPL, I have to go back and undo everything I did. Kind of a pain in the butt. <from Alpha-F1> 6th October 2000 Grand Prix games producer Nick Court commented for us that the official Grand Prix 3 patch details will be revealed soon. The patch itself will also be available in the near future. Despite Hasbro hasn't given any details of the patch, we already know that it adds three-axis controller support and fixes other wheels related problems. It also changes the physics more realistic when the car goes over kerbs. In other words it's now possible that the other wheel can touch grass while the other is on kerb (which unrealistically didn't happen before). Nick also commented that the details of the '99 add-on will be announced after the patch itself has been released. Is that with the MSFF ? I can get it to work split axis with my F1 sim but it has to be combined with the MSFF. That's why I don't drive GP3 much. Exactly. It also screws up settings for flight sims which I also play. There is no way I am going to screw up my controllers for one game. So I don't play GP3 at all now. I wish I didn't buy it when it first came out and had waited for the patch. Totally unacceptable considering with the old GP2 you could get split axis and analogue clutch to work properly. I am amazed that this was so screwed up and how long it is taking to get the patch out. It is incredible how far people are going to run GP3. People mapping analogue axes to keys! Jeeez.
