GP3 flag rules and black flags for corner cutting

Users questioned GP3's flag implementation, noting red flags never appeared and black flags were given for accidental off-track excursions. Gregor Veble explained that GP3 penalised cutting a corner above a certain speed, so slowing down avoided penalties. Others noted the manual repeated GP2's text almost word for word.

The black flag thing is driving me crazy. Originally I thought it was a non-issue when people complained about another one of Crammond's decisions. But when you get just slightly out of shape braking for the second chicane at Monza and go off track, but don't gain a position, it is so bloody frustrating to putter along on low power and watch the other cars eat you up... I often resort to ridiculous swerving and blocking, and then the atmosphere goes out the window. Yes, I could drive more cleanly, but who doesn't overcook a corner in a race? Would it have been so difficult to change the black flag strategy during the race to look at whether an advantage was gained? Stephen

I have a question about GP3, is it possible to get a red flag, I mean the light is there, but it never goes on, I havent seen a redflag in this game yet. When there are some big accidents the cpu marshells move the cars to the side, and you get a small caution, also if you pass under a caution do you get black flagged in the game???? thankyou Marco

You really should try to get out of this habit (cutting corners and having fun) as it is depleting the world's supply of exclamation-points. (Either that or you should seek help from Punctuator's Anonymous). Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

The idea to reduce the power of the car for ten seconds, as a penalty for bad behaviour, rather than having to entire the pits adds an arcade element to the sim, which I imagine they thought would be important for those of you who don't want 100% realism, but they should have at least left the rest of us an option to activate a real stop-and-go penalty system. The flags are definitely something which they need to work on in upcoming patches.

What GP3 seems to do is to have a speed limit on the cutting of corners. If you cut a corner below a certain speed (slower than what would be the normal time around the particualr corner), all is OK, otherwise a black flag is out. Whenever you see you will not manage a corner, try to slow down as much as you can and cross the grass at a slow pace. GP3 will penalize you not for gaining positions on cutting corners but also on gaining time. Take that into account and you should be fine. At least it works for me, at the same corner you mention. -Gregor

Just recently, at Monza, Shummy had one of his qualifying laps taken away when he cut across the first chicane. If the rules said that you were allowed to cut corners and get away with it, just so long as you didn't overtake the car in front in the process, we would see a lot more cars flooring it through chicanes.

GP3 has no problem with you making mistakes, it has a problem though when you "make a mistake" and decide to take a grass route flat out. As in real life, back off the power, nudge your way back onto he track and your on your way, if you try to go through grass without loosing any time then you'll be penalised. And rightly so, if the best line as through the grass, everyone would do it.
I expect to have a Q-lap nullified if I cut corners. I don't expect to be penalized if I blow a corner in the race, but don't gain an advantage. That's like sliding backwards through the pits(N3) because of a wreck, and getting a black flag for speeding...
