Hi Dan,
In DTR you could use F5 to toggle the player names on/off. I saw an entry
in the options for this too.

I just got done racing on-line for 3 hours plus with no disco's or
problems. Here's what I think of the demo (read demo) after online and
about 1 hour single player. The host and I both have dsl with the same
service provider, my ping to the host was 45 to 50. We both have Zone
Alarm turned on. The IP to IP game was a fast connect, hit join and you
are at the chat screen instantly. My computer is a Celeron at 467Mhz,
128 meg ram, with a Voodoo 3 3000 at 181Mhz. The first race was a little
jerky for me. The track didn't come at me smooth, but never any lag or
warping. I had everything turned on or up. I adusted my skid marks to
min., res down to 1024 and turned off Specular. What is that anyway?
Btw, the host had a Intel 933Mhz, 256 ram, GeForce II 64 meg. He said
his Specular was greyed out. With these adjustments to my rig, we raced
3 hours plus, smooth as glass with no lag, clock smashing or warps. I
know thats what you would expect with DSL, and thats what we got. If I
may, I'd like to give some quick observations about the demo and what I
would like to see the the game (read game). First of all, multiplayer,
there was no other IA cars in the demo, hope we do in the game. Second,
some general rants and raves. I like: shadows on the other cars as they
go under and out of the overhead lights, car shake, but I think we need
more, sliding bar for adjustment maybe? I mean I want this shake to look
like its rattling my brain when the tires start to hook up coming out of
turn 4. The sound is ok, but just ok, I would like to hear some
backfiring when letting off the throttle too fast, I want to hear this
bad boy rapping with the radical cam during the yellow flag single file
lap, I want to get scared by the sound of 10 other cars near me in a
corner, 3d sound would make me cry with joy! Rear view mirror, lets be
able to turn it off. Damage model is probably finished in this soon to
be released game, so we get what we get. But,if the front wing gets
bent, and you can see it from the in car view, I'd like that. Tire marks
on the track don't turn me on, I think blue or black areas would be
better that "skid marks". Frankly I think the "skid marks" suck. Thanks
for letting me turn them down. I would like to see smoke from the tires.
Dust from the cars is ok as is. On a wet track I would like to see mud
flying. Hell, I would like to see it hit me and my car. Is ther anyway
for this to be in the game?. This is beginning to sound like I am
griping now, so I will end with a message for the people working on the
demo and the soon to be game, Thanks for the demo, thanks for the Sprint
car effort and thanks for the wood you have provided already. Dan.

I want to change my opinion on a couple of things I stated earlier in my
first post. I went back to the demo and turned down the skid marks
(duh!) to one position below half way and, now we're talking! Looks
great to me, dust and black smoke? ---just what I wanted. I think I was
too critical of the motor sound, it does have a little rap, rap sound
after all, and a little burp when you back-pedal the throttle. ---Good
enuf. I still would like the other cars to be much louder at close
range tho. (And the view shake or jitter increased). If the drivers head
(ie the view from in the car) could change a little front to back and
even side to side with acceleration and bumps into the guard rail and
walls, it would add a lot to the game I think. On more thing, could we
toggle the name tags above the human cars in multiplayer off or on? Very
un-realistic looking to me. But the cars, and the sky, at Eldora,
---both beautiful. Dan
