Just think of the setup changes! All our asymetrical setups will have to be
reversed as well!

GPL Reverse utility lets tracks be driven backwards
Andre Warringa announced GPL Reverse, a utility by John Black that created reversed versions of GPL tracks such as 'Aznom' from Monza. Users found it worked well and enjoyed the new layouts, while noting quirks like the pit exit at reversed Spa and AI trouble at chicanes. Others joked about further mirror and elevation variants.

Actually, it's true. The creator of GPLrev did a great job. However,
when you reverse Monza (Aznom), you'll get one hell of a T1.... :-D

Works great! :))
I tried to create something once myself, but couldn't get it going; my
head exploded when I discovered some track planes needed reversing,
and others didn't. And after too many attempts and quick black screens
and crashes, I decided to put my time elsewhere. Thankfully John Black
didn't throw in the towel!

Crikey, it's taken me 18 months to properly learn the tracks included in the

now got 35. It'll propably take me the rest of my life to learn all the
tracks backward and forwards.

Reversed how? Is it:
1) mirrored only? (Curva Grande is still T1 but goes left)
2) backwards but not mirrored? (Parabolica is now T1 and goes left)
3) backwards AND mirrored? (Parabolica is now T1 but goes RIGHT)

The AI thinks so too :))
However, Monza was the first reversed track I tried yesterday, and
it's big fun, allmost like a completely new track.
And the covers of the reversed tracks are turned upside down too :)

No it doesn't - you can also combine the Z-reversal with X-reversal, Y-

But since using over 64 tracks means a lot of manual editing (until a tool
appears to simplify this...) all this is a bit academic.

While we reverse X and Y, why not reverse Z also! Reverse elevation! Just
imagine going up for the first turn at Kyalami, or getting massive air at

Well I guess the lap times for these tracks in reverse, once gotten used
to, should be pretty similar to the times when driven normally. Mmm,
seeing as I'm struggling to improve any of my current laps times - a
tenth here or there - I see a new target worth trying out. Seeing if I
can drive quicker going reverse compared to normal. And come to think
about it, would it be possible to have a GPLrank of all the tracks in
reverse? Just a thought. :)

I tried to use the interesting gplrev to make a reversed Monza.
The program makes the aznom directory, but then there is a memory
problem: While converting monza.3do the program stops and prints:
Error allocating 1179744 bytes of memory
I have 523 Mb free space in my C-disk. The RAM is 64 Mb. No other
programs are running...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

The corner stone of GPLRank is the sum time of the 11 included replays, and the
fact that your times for these tracks are automatically written to your
player.ini. To add tracks, new or reversed, wouldn't work with the current
system.

On the reversed Monaco there is a "nasty" at the first hairpin
(Gazometres). If you cut it too close it spins you right around! On the
plus side I now at least have the satisfaction of watching the AI get
theirs at the chicane. Every race at least a couple of the drivers
misjudge their entry and end up backwards,
Actually I have to say that GPL Reverse does a decent job at Monaco,
aside from a few wierd graphic glitches which is quite understandable.
The AI runs wide at the reversed Mirabeau and ends up on the sidewalk
which leave a nice opening for a pass, but otherwise they run the course
quite well.
I also tried a reversed Laguna Seca. You are in for a real fun ride when
you go *up* the Corkscrew!
