Same with the LA Times...hell, they only gave Shumacher and Ferrari one tiny
paragraph, followed by 8 friggin' pages of football and baseball tripe.

Geez. Kenny Roberts Jr. wins the FIM 500GP Championship for the good
ole USA which in my mind is the Formula One of bike racing, and there is
NOTHING in any of the papers about it today. USA Today in print or on
the web does not even mention it.
SAD.

I would argue that these are the two sports (GP bike and car racing) with
the most balls....
Stephen
Who is reminded of the anecdote of Patrese coming into Mansell's motorhome
after a particularly awe-inspiring qualifying performance, kneeling down in
front of Mansell and joking that he wanted to see just how big Mansell's
jewels were...
Who is furthermore reminded of another little gem which came out when full
telemetry came to F1. Around the old 6th gear final corner of Mexico
(Peralta?) the telemetry from the Williams cars was showing that the active
suspension of the 1991 FW12 (?) was doing particularly evil things
mid-corner. Telemetry showed that Patrese backed out of the throttle each
time to stabilize the car. Mansell planted his foot further into it and
drove through the mess. Yessir, size XL underpants...

American and he won the World Championship for his sport. I don't believe
that a spot on Kenny's Championship would have cut too deep into all the
coverage that Football and Baseball got on Monday. There was plenty of room
(at least in USA Today) for a picture and some coverage. I don't think they
would have sold less papers if they would have done this...

obviously have internet access and coverage of this sort is one of it's
strength. If you think his win should have been covered only to recognize
his accomplishment, then you need to wake up and smell the coffee.
Newspapers exists to make money. Football and baseball make money and sell
papers, motorcycle racing does not.

David,
Did you see the interview with Kenny Sr. and Jr. after the race on
Speedvision? I couldn't believe how cold Sr. was toward Jr's title.
You would have thought that he had just been convicted of murder. I
haven't really followed Jr's career except for the past 2 years and
know that he wasn't with his Dad's team. Was there a split and some
bad blood or is Sr. just an A.J. Foyt type>

This was supposed to go on the thread about Kenny Roberts Jr's win
