Hi,
I've recently upgraded my system and now Im having problems running gp3 :
When I start a race, PO is 75% standing still, when the cars start moving
the PO stays below 100% ,but Im getting many hick-ups (the picture freezes
and after a while moves again) untill the first corner.
During the race these hick-ups appear randomly, sometimes they last for 0.5
secs ,sometimes for almost 2 seconds.
When my computer has been on for a while and I do a race, I usually get 1
big hickup (2-3 seconds) and then the game throws me back to desktop, giving
me the 'illegal operation' error dialog box.
My system and settings are like this:
AMD K6-2 500
Aska mainboard with VIA appollo mvp3 chipset
64 mb Ram
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP (with fan on original heatsink)
3com ethernet card (ISA)
yamaha opl3sa soundcard (ISA)
2 cd rom drives
2 harddisks
GP3 settings:
640x480
hardware mode
all deatil in frontview on, mirrors have track+smoke+grass
detail level: all
reduced hardware texture mode: turned on.
I have tried it both with and without the cdrom (using a no-cd patch), so
it's not depending on the cdrom speed.
This is all put in an old AT case. I thought heat might be the problem,
since the game performs better in the morning when my PC has been off all
night, thats why I added the fan to the voodoo. the heatsink is definitely
cooler, but it didn't help much with the game. the problem might be heat in
my processor, since the 2nd HD is close to the processor, and gives off a
whole lot of heat, but I haven't tried to fix that yet.
I tried changing my AGP aperture size in the BIOS to 16 mb (was 64) but that
didnt help much. changing the virtual memory setting to my faster & emptier
HD didnt help either.
Before the upgrade I had a P233 MMX, 64 MB and a 1 mb videocard, and gp3 ran
fine in 512x384 with all detail off in software mode.
Please help me, it's a very annoying problem.
thanks in advance.

Are you sure that it isn't some background program in Windows? A
scheduler or something?

nope, but I solved the problem already by adding an extra 64 Mb.
thanks anyway.
