Oh no, now the cheaters come up ;)!

I thought this was discussed in the past but I can't find any previous
postings. Is there anything to change in an .ini file that will make
the grass less ice-like?
Thanks,

The answer is no. The grass is very realistic, given the power/weight ratio
those cars have. Just try a F3 car and you'll understand.

The grass actually has more grip than the tarmac, but, due to a flaw in real
life physics, it becomes extremely slippery if you try and drive across it
in an out of control motor car at 100+mph.
To make the grass less hazardous however, you can try this: First back up
your player.ini and core.ini files. then uninstall GPL. Before you reinstall
it, you'll need to create a special new core.ini called irl.ini by taking a
real-life lightweight, powerful road car or racing car, and sliding it
across a large swathe of grass at extreme speed. Remember, a circuit with
lots of trees surrounding, or one in a natural basin or valley will have
wetter grass than open, windswept circuits. Then, go back home, and
reinstall GPL. The grass in GPL will now seem considerably more grippy.

Blech! Why would you want to do that? Don't people cut the corners at the
Nurburgring enough already?

How about if the car is inverted at that moment? :)

I tried this, but it didn't work!! ;-)
All right, all right, while I especially liked the suggestion of sliding
an IRL car across the infield (ROTFL), let me just apologize for asking
such a ridiculous question. I was just jealous that the AI could miss a
corner completely and stay straight while if I lose a rear wheel for an
instant I'm doing Zanardi's into the barriers. Really, it's the realism
that I love and well shucks, if that's the way its gotta be, then
doggone it, I'm OK with that.
Thanks for your help, keeping me on the straight and narrow...<sniff> I
love you guys <sniff>
Gotta get back to the Surfer's race.....

I certainly agree with that, but I believe the AI cars have a simpler
physics model to avoid overworking the CPU, and can get away with a bit
more than us.

You're right, it should be the same for everybody. Nothing more annoying
than at Parabolica when an AI car cuts you up, you both go on the

Oh they sure do, like when you get tangled and you're facing the wrong
way and the damn AI car just rotates around that invisible 5th wheel
underneath the center of the car and takes off. I got wheel locked with
the AI yesterday and could not get untangled and had to exit the race.
But me exiting freed up the AI to continue. I couldn't believe it.
Okay, I'll sit down and breathe....Repeat the mantra "GPL has the best
physics engine ever. Enjoy it for what it gives you." ;-) No flames,
I'm just kidding!

No flames, I have to agree with you there<g>. Just yesterday evening in a
long race at Zandvoort, Clark and I tangled while trying to pass a
backmarker(It way *my* line honest). I did everything to get off, and
couldn't. I had to sit and watch my 15 second lead evaporate, then had to
retire anyway because my suspension had been trashed! Clark carried on...
If theres one thing that anoys me more than the AI spin recovery, it's their
inability to reverse away from a car they've got stuck to.
