Notable threadHasbro Interactive's future and NASCAR Heat support

News that Hasbro was seeking a strategic partner for Hasbro Interactive led users to fear for NASCAR Heat and Grand Prix 3 patches. Hasbro's Ed Martin said the racing business was doing well, that the NASCAR Heat series would continue and that the GP series was unaffected. He also answered a question about the earlier dismissal of the Falcon 4.0 team.

I've "flown" sims since 1987 and "raced" sims since 1989.....I still don't consider the news to be earth-shattering. Companies come, companies go......if it isn't Hasbro selling it's interactive arm it's someone else buying an interactive arm. The world continues to revolve and you will continue to be provided with entertainment. Do you think it matters if Hasbro will be together or not? There was NEVER a real commitment to patching GP3 - how long has it been? Andi Cole <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8sckhu$42p$[email hidden]...

I wouldn't worry too much about Hasbro Interactive going away. Papyrus didn't "go away" when they were acquired by Sierra, then CUC, then Cendant, then Havas/Vivendi. That happened a long time ago and Falcon was a product inherited from the Microprose acquisition. Anyway, there is no connection between NASCAR and Falcon so I'm not sure what the question is. --ed. "Regular Racer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:sYFG5.265$[email hidden]...

I guess the question is how do you think all this will affect the future of your team's racing sim projects? You're the only person here who's on the inside of this thing -- does it look like the end of the world as we know it, or do you think your projects will go on without interruption? BB

Geez, James...I was considering offering you the opportunity to provide a quotation for the design of a major web site. Maybe worth five figures (in US dollars). You know, you've got to learn to keep that snippy tone out of your posts if you are also going to advertise your business. Cheers! Our racing game business is doing very well and the NASCAR Heat series will continue. We are 1 of 3 licensees for NASCAR (EA & Havas/Vivendi being the other 2) so there is great value in what we have/do. We are going to stop doing PC games? That's interesting news. Perhaps you know more than we do here at Hasbro? I really can't comment a lot on the Microprose acquisition because it pre-dates my time here. However, the folks at HI can certainly see "the forest for the pokemons". First, we have no rights to Pokemon at Hasbro Interactive - Hasbro only has the trading card rights at Wizards of the Coast. Nintendo has all interactive Pokemon rights. Also, the WotC acquisition happened long after the Microprose acquisition. And for the record, Microprose is part of Hasbro Interactive, WotC is part of Hasbro. Cute line, I guess, but not relevant. I understand that you are upset at the demise of Falcon 4 - there's not a lot I can do to help you there. I can, however, tell you that last week's announcement by Hasbro will not effect our NASCAR business here at Hasbro Interactive/Games.com. Our NASCAR business continues to grow rapidly not only in the NASCAR Heat series but in other NASCAR-licensed games as well - PC & other platforms. --ed. Well that's good news Ed. I really enjoy HEAT and feel it could be so much more. Don't think I'm some evil uninformed person. I was just relaying what I read from several different sources. Besides, it answered my questions. One more question.. Grand Prix 3.. That will be part of the close down though won't it? I could really care less about GP3 as I'm not much of an F1 fan. All that was said in the releases is that Hasbro is seeking a "strategic partner" for Hasbro Interactive & Games.com. As for the GP series, no that won't be effected either. In fact, nothing at HI/Games.com is effected at all. Other parts of Hasbro corporation have been impacted, but nothing on the Interactive side of things. --ed.
