Lankhor releases F1 World Grand Prix PC patch

JB announced a small patch for Lankhor's F1 World Grand Prix, which users said improved braking somewhat. Alexander Marx argued that F1WGP was a fun arcade racer while GP2 remained the better simulation, a view many endorsed. A Lankhor employee mentioned the upcoming game Warm Up!, and a Beta 5 patch later addressed controller and physics issues.

FYI, Lankhor has released a patch for their F1WGP game -- you can download it at: http://www.lankhor.com/english/defaut.html Go under the "News" link, or go here directly for the patch: http://www.lankhor.com/commons/news_general.html It's a VERY small patch -- only about 536k. The readme doesn't mention anything about controller sensitivity, but I have heard that this patch is supposed to address the touchy brakes and brake lockup problems. I'll let you know more when I have a chance to do some testing with the patch installed. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

F12K is a great sim, F1WGP is a great entry-level F1 racer (not a > sim, and better than a NFS3-type arcade racer), whereas GP3 is, well, > not all that much more than a rehash of GP2. Like I said, it baffles > me. while I agree that F1WGP is a very good game on its own (if you read through the archives you'll find a post where I recommend it very much), GP2 is IMO still a much better racing simulation than both F12K and F1WGP. F1WGP, especially with the new patch, is a real fun arcade racer for everyones instant enjoyment. F1-2000 was an experiment on just how unfinished and unoptimized a piece of software can be and still sell well - that said, F1-2001 (or however it will be called) might turn out to be a big surprise if ISI can get it together for the 2nd try. But in their current state, none of these games plays in the same league as GP3 which is a evolution and not a rehash of GP2, in fact it's quite different from GP2, apparently different enough for some people that were GP2 fans 4 years ago to dislike it. GP3 has a very distinct driving model that feels closer to real contemporary open-wheel racing than any other sim I've tried (including GPL). It features dynamic weather that even the "we'll give you everything" West Brothers themselves admit they'll have a hard time coming close to that level of realism and immersion. It shows you graphics that are maybe not using the most recent graphics card technology, but are unparalleled for providing lifelike, realistic pictures. I've show both GP3 and F1-2000 to people who know nothing about computers at all at trade shows and racing events. They pretty much all prefered the look and feel of GP3 over F1-2000, so what baffles me is how negative GP3 is received by the "hardcore" pc gamer crowd and / or the GPL community. I guess it all comes down to high expectations and personal disappointment about the fact that GP3 seems to be developed more for the Formula One fan that happens to own a computer than for the "serious" PC Gamer that happens to play an F1 Simulation. And after the financial disaster that GPL was, no one would develop a product that is aimed solely at the incredibly small intersection of these target audiences. I am sure, if GP3 would've been "f1 '98 championship racing ", developed by a newcomer to the genre, it would've earned a lot of praise. cheers, Alex

I originally avoided this title because in the demo I could race efectively, but was a good 15 or 20 seconds off qualifying and always started in the back of the grid. I read several reviews that found the same issue on some tracks. Did this ever get fixed? In article <8sib66$7i7$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] wrote:

I'm not sure how much the patch helps in the control department, but it does seem to make a difference -- not revolutionary, but better, as I'm now experiencing less of the sudden, drastic brake lock-ups. In playing around with the game tonight, though, I was surprised to find just how different the various cars and teams are modelled. I typically drive Mika's Mercedes in F1WGP, but I've been driving Schumi's Ferrari in F12K of late, so I decided to switch to the Ferrari in F1WGP just so the colors would look "right" (yes, I'm a sim racing nutcase, but so are YOU if you're reading this! <G>). I was shocked to find out how differently the Ferrari handled in F1WGP -- it fit my driving style MUCH better, in fact, and that, combined with the changes from the patch, really helped make F1WGP more enjoyable than I had realized it could be. Which just makes me wonder even more why everybody's so smitten with GP3. F12K is a great sim, F1WGP is a great entry-level F1 racer (not a sim, and better than a NFS3-type arcade racer), whereas GP3 is, well, not all that much more than a rehash of GP2. Like I said, it baffles me. Anyway, all that aside, if you do have F1WGP, grab the patch, slip into the Ferrari, and see for yourself. If you don't have F1WGP, I saw it for $9 (yes, not $19 but $9) at EB, and even at $19, it's a worthwhile distraction if you're an F1 fan. Hopefully the sequel will have the Indy track . . . -- JB In article <8sib66$7i7$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] wrote:

Last weekend I downloaded the 6.5.30 patch for RC2000, which solves a lot of the steering problems. Together with the RalWiz utility, it brought a great boost to RC2000's gameplay and again I'm having a very good time playing it. I hope the F1WGP fixes some of the most annoying bugs too to make it as it should have been when it appeared on the shelves (has the braking problem been fixes now?) Andre

Most of my specific posts about F1WGP was that I liked how the REAR wing was modeled in the 3 modes (High, medium, low, downforce settings) -Cheers <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8skgdm$vf9$[email hidden]...

I was one of the beta-tester since one month now and some stuffs were changed, in the good way, but my main complain, the weird braking, seems not to be fixed until now. I will ask the Lankhor guy for more informations about the history of the patch. I received the beta 1, 2 and 3. Maybe a beta 4 is on the way. But i always return to GPL.........4ever. Thanks for pointing this out, Maxx -- the Beta 5 patch does seem to address the controller issues, as well as the physics, it seems. After downloading the Beta 5 patch, things are really starting to feel better with F1WGP.
