I'm interested in hearing from anyone who is running GPL with a newer Voodoo
card (Voodoo 4 or Voodoo 5). How does it look and how does it run? Are you
using Glide, OpenGL, or DirectX to run GPL?
My current theory is the BEST way to run GPL on recent graphics hardware
would be to use the original Glide support running on the latest and
greatest Voodoo card that supports Glide. I have run GPL on a Voodoo 2 with
Glide and on a Nvidia TNT via OpenGL and I always preferred the Voodoo/Glide
combo. Its been a while since I ran GPL but I'm back in the mood and want
to upgrade the graphics hardware to run it as best as possible, and the
Voodoo 2 is no longer an option for me.
Many thanks for all helpful replies.
Theres a thread on this very subject in the High Gear GPL forum at the
moment, you might want to check it out :

I don't have the cards myself but there are some GPL screenshots
with FSAA in thread "Now take this Yankees" that look great.
Consensus seems to be they work great, using 3DFX I assume.

The earlier drivers would not allow 2x FSAA so I had
been using the D3D patch. Recently a beta V5 driver came out that supports
2x FSAA in GPL so I switched back to Glide. I think GPL looks better in
Glide. I didn't notice any real difference in performance on my system (1g
Athlon, 128mB) but I have been disappointed in one thing - since I switched
back to Glide I can't seem to use any of the high resolution dashboards that
have been put out by the GPL Spare Parts Factory (I think that's what it's
called). They worked fine in D3D mode. I may switch back to D3D so I can
use the dashboards; the general improvement in appearance under Glide is too
slight to make much difference to me.
