Of course there is the choreographed spinning of the Audi TT and the Porsche Boxster in Mission Impossible 2, with the same scene recycled about a dozen times... still, it was cool. My vote is for Ronin. -- Stephen

Not to mention "The Seven Ups" (I believe) circa '73 or so starring Roy Scheider as a NYC "bad cop." The chase scene between a big Pontiac (Catalina or Bonneville) vs. a small Pontiac (Tempest or Ventura) with Scheider in it was done by the same stunt coordinator who did Bullitt. The film shows up on AMC every now and then. I personally liked this scene better than Bullitt. One of the lamest chase scenes had to be early in "Live and Let Die" where Bond's cabbie got whacked by the bad mofo in the "ultra white pimp mobile." ;) Did *everybody* in New York actually drive 1973 Chevy Impalas? The car was a Ford Puma. They did some really interesting digital video editing to put him inside the car, instead of the Mustang Fastback. -- Stephen

Almost as if the director had some > experience filming that sort if thing before. :-) I saw something on the making of Ronin and you wouldn't believe the lengths Frankenhiemer went to to make it correct. All the car sounds in the movie were sampled here in the USA. They even had a European spec BMW 5 series brought over to sample! So, it's not like watching the commercial for Stallone's "Driven" in which you see CHAMP cars and fake CHAMP cars (ugh!) driving around with F1 V-10 engine sounds. All the sounds in Ronin were absolutely correct. I'd wager every clip of DeNiro yanking on the E-brake actually happened as well. And if I'm not mistaken, DeNiro did as least part of his driving. I think some of it was done with a false set of controls in front of him and the real driver next to him so they could get footage of him being scared silly while the car was spinning around. -Chris- **Jesus saves sinners and redeems them for valuable cash prizes** Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

My vote is "Gone In 60 Seconds" ... the original version from the 70's ... not this lame remake that was in the theatres this summer. Admittedly this is NOT a movie to watch for the cinematography ... it appears to have been made on a smaller budget than my son's Baptismal video ... but, the 35 minute car chase is quite entertaining! The two highlights of that movie? First ... "Elenor" (the stolen Mach 1) is headed down the interstate in the left lane. From a "chopper shot" we see the stunt driver wait too long to take the hard right turn (around a slower "jam car" in the right lane) and onto an exit ramp. The right rear of the Mach1 clips the left front of the "Jam Car" and starts a series of vicious spins. The car misses the exit ramp and T-Bones a lamp pole! No way that was planned. As a matter of fact, there's a quick cut to one of the police chase cars where the actor is abviously suprised and shouts back into the car, "he clipped a F***ING light pole!". The second highlight is, of course, the chase ending jump. The multi angled slow motion replays are simple beauty! I still get chills watching this chase. I'm always embarrased for the movies actors, editing and second rate writing ... but, the Stunts and chase sequence more than makes up for what is lacking. Here are a few that you could tap into... Cannonball Run movies Smokey and the Bandit movies Every episode of Knight Rider (the series) Every episode of Dukes of Hazzard (please model Daisy Duke true to life and let me run over Boss Hog with the General Lee!) There are so many movies and TV series out there to choose from, it boggles the mind. Now which are the greatest? That's all a matter of opinion. I pointed out the <above> movies and series because they centered around chase scenes. Dave James Pickard wrote:

That original version was much better, the whole rough and ready feel is what made it an unique film. Somehow it seemed to fit in with the charecters it was portraying. Ahhh! THATs the one I was wracking my brain for and couldn't remember; the Seven Ups. Your right, fantastic chase scene. Also had a fondness for early 70s Venturas after seeing that film. They beat the bejesus out of that car. Other one I forgot was Gator, with Burts hopped up brown LTD. And Burts opening sequence to the Longest Yard with the Citreon. Also forgot "Cannonball" with David Carradine in 1976 (not to be confused with the silly Cannonball Run series of flix) and its predecessor, with David, DeathRace2000. Someone ought to put together a video compilation of just the chase scenes from all these flicks. I'd buy it. BTW, any of you ever catch ESPNs coverage of the Silver State Classic open road race a few years back. I still yell at my wife for accidently taping over that. Had in car coverage of a black big-block 1969 Charger running at 180+. Sweet car. Mark <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8sied0$akb$[email hidden]...

There was a film I recall, though I can't remember the name, where there's a guy who has to drive a car across America and has been up for days and is popping pills to stay awake. Anyway he makes a bet with some guy at a garage that he can get it there in something like 72 hours and for some reason which eludes me at the mo the police are soon out to stop him. The driving action is interspersed with a blind, black dj for a local radio station talking over the airwaves as if he knows this guy inside-out. In the end the guy doesn't make it and just deliberately drives straight into a bulldozed doing over a ton (the car, not the bulldozer). I'm pretty sure some of the chase action in this film was pretty good, though it's been ages seen I saw it. Does anyone else remember this one? -- Peter Ives - (AKA Ivington) Remove ALL_STRESS before replying No person's opinions can be said to be more correct than another's, because each is the sole judge of his or her own experience.

It was a Saturday Matinee and there were only about a dozen other kids there. I sat way up front. About half an hour into the movie I noticed it was suddenly really quiet in there and turned around to see that I was the only person in the theatre. Nothing like a private showing of a movie in a real theater. It was also noteworthy because it was also the first time I ever saw a nude woman in a movie (the woman on the motorcycle in the desert). This movie also probably influenced my pursuit and acquisition of a 1970 Challenger 340 later in life. ~daxe

One of the most famous on film was from Steve McQueen's "Bullit", featuring a Mustang through the hilly streets of San Francisco. And let's not forget the most famous real life car chase - O.J. Simpson in the back of the Ford Bronco on the freeways of Los Angeles. Dave Ewing -- ***************************************************** David A.
