Is it worht getting if you have 2000 ? Any comments would be great.
Judging from the demo I would say: yes. I'm using an FF-joystick to control the game and the "feel" is a lot better this time 'round. Much easier to hold a steady line through a turn. I still think small corrections should be easier, but on the whole I think Milestone have struck a nice balance as far as driving is concerned. Everything else is just nipped, tweaked and tucked, obviously, but I'm sure it will replace SBK2000 on my harddrive soon. I think so. I have the original Superbike WCS, GP500 and just purchased Superbike 2001. I am still at the amatuer level, but with all the assists turned off, such as braking, throttle and auto shift, it's really hard trying to go right to the realistic level until you get the hang of the game. I have been running Kyalami and had to re-learn it, but once I did I am really enjoying it. Jumping right in to Quickstart for a few laps makes for a lot of fun. The AI seems really well done, only time that a bike runs into me it' usually my fault. they don't all take the same line either. The graphics and gameplay are excellent. I am running it on a Celeron 400 o'clocked to 500 mhz, voodoo 3 card and I can run at 1024 x 768 with medium graphics options turned on. The racing is a lot of fun, more so than the original superbike. For $34.00 I definitely think it's worth it. If not then bring it back. Sadly I couldn't get on with it so I took it back and exchanged it for GP500. Yesterday I decided to give SBK 2001 a go. I bought it along with an MS Freestyle Pro controller (the one you can tilt to use as a joystick). All I can say is that SBK 2001 is a lot better than SBK 2000. It corrects a number of the problems I had with the original, namely I can actually stay on the bike for more than a lap in Real mode. The control you can get with a Freestyle Pro is consistent and precise. I use the left/right tilt for steering, the up/down tilt for rider position and my CH Pedals for the accelerator and brake. A good feature of SBK 2001 is its' support for multi axis devices ala GPL. It also features by far the best training mode I have seen in any sim to date. You get a dotted racing line to follow and a sliding bar display which moves between green for safe speed and red for dangerous speed. Keeping the slider in the green zone means that you take the corners at the correct speed. Also when you pause the training mode, you get a drive through of the next corner together with a voice over description of the line to take, braking points, gear and speed for the corner or corners. The graphics are the best of any sim I have seen and run at a pretty decent framerate. With my P3 800 equipped with a Voodoo3 2000 I can run at 800x600 with most details switched on and a full 25 bike field with framerates in the low to mid 30s as reported by Fraps. If I had a better graphics card I'm sure I could run at a higher resolution with no problem. There is no real slowdown even in the wet. The track models are top drawer. The only track I have been to, Donington Park, is faithfully represented. These tracks are truly what a modern race sim should provide us with. The main fault I have found with the sim is in the menus. I get a strange crackling sound through the rear speakers attached to my SB Live! 1024. This doesn't happen when riding but is a little annoying. It would also be nice if the game saved your lap records. The only records it saves are race times. I understand that there are some multi-player problems but I'm not worried about that as my online racing is confined to GPL. I see SBK 2001 as a nice change of pace from GPL, and these minor niggles aside I would say that it is a keeper. I'm using TM F22, and the TQS throttle to control. I program the 4 way switch on the TQS for shifting, up and down, and also use the CH pedals for the throttle and brake. The TQS shifting works great, the shifter is right at my left index finger. Every now and then I get a missed shift, but I think it's due to the tires spinning too much. How do you like the MS Freestyle Pro, does it connect independent from your joystick? I was looking into getting one but didn't feel like disconnecting my joystick everytime I wanted to use it. When I had SBK 2000 I was using a Gravis XTerminator which was difficult to ride with. The Freestyle Pro is much easier. You can do quick flicks to change direction rapidly and in a controlled manner. This is obviously important in the chicanes. I have the Freestyle Pro plugged into one USB port, an Act Labs Force RS in the second USB port and a Gravis Analog Pro and CH Pedals plugged into the gameport of my SB Live!. The only problem I have had with this controller configuration is that if I have the Freestyle Pro plugged in at the same time as the Act Labs wheel the controllers don't work properly in GPL. I have to unplug the Freestyle Pro to get it to work properly. When I decide which sim I want to run, I simply have to plug-in / unplug a USB device, rejig the controller IDs in the Controllers applet and fire up the sim. This takes about a minute so is no great problem. I agree. I have the full version of SB2001 and it is very good, the handling is great, as are the awesome graphics. Has anyone found any good websites for this sim yet? 8-) *Peter* - http://www.cix.co.uk/~peterpc/home.html
