How much of a performance hit does a FF wheel take over using a normal wheel
or stick? (If hardware matters, I have a PIII-500 with 128Mb, running
Win98SE).

Depends on which FF wheel you use - I read that the MSFF has quite
some effect on the fps, while the LWFF allmost has no effect on the
fps.

the LWFF needs 30,000(?). U be the judge. My LWFF has NO effect on FPS
using my P2-400. Problem is; Logitech no longer makes the WFF. Go figure.

20% slow-down at race starts in GPL. The wheel uses the CPU in generating
it's FF effects, so CPU intensive games (most racing sims) suffer slow-down.
In arcade racers though, the problem is less apparent, since they aren't
using the CPU at it's limit.
With a LWFF the slow-down is so small as to be hardly noticeable.

The old gameport MS is great with no noticable performance hit, MS released
a patch for their new one that supposed to be better, The old MS wheel is
alot better than the new usb one

The same is true of the MS FF2 joystick. I bought one and thought my
FPS was lower. I then tested it in a flight sims using FRAPS and sure
enough I was losing over 10fps in EAW compared to FF effects off.
Needless to say I returned the stick.

I have both a Logitech FFB wheel and stick and niether causes a frame
rate loss that I have noticed. I did test the wheel in Nascar Heat and
there is no loss in frame rate with FFB on.

Hi all,
Since we are on this topic, can you guys comment on USB keyboard and
mouse or cordless keyboard and mouse? Do these use more CPU power than
conventional keyboard and mouse (PS/2)? Please advise. Thanks.

A friend of mine bought a wireless mouse. Worked perfect for Windows,
but for games (like Quake 3 for example) it was not suited. The mouse
movement was way too jerky when the mouse was being moved fast.
